you know what the problem with trying to weigh not what i weigh is?

nothing is good for you. NOTHING.

Pretzels? bad. avocado? bad. juice? bad.

all i want is a green tea frappachino to make me feel better, and calorically, it does not fit into my day, nevermind the fact that i had only a banana for breakfast and some leftover pasta for lunch (neither are good for you really), it doesn't matter!

i am far too grumpy after the end of my touchy-feely week-long 'break up into groups and talk about your feelings' adolescent psychology class to deal with this very rationally.

dear body: you are crap. i demand that you cease either to be fat or to have throbbing sinuses right this instant.

I started eating just less stuff and no outright junk food, and it helped a lot. No snacks between meals.

Mmm, I love frappuccino. I wish I could still have some!

But avocados *are* good for you!

My mom had to go on a minimal-to-no fat diet back when she had gall stones and that slimmed her down pretty well without being too detrimental in the taste department, but I suspect the whole not being on a college student's budget might've contributed mightily to the success therein.

And one of these days I'm going to stop telling myself I need to start exercising and actually do it. :\

yeah, that's what i'm working on. I've been writing down everything i eat and the calories involved, so i can't eat anything i'm too embarrassed to write down.

i have compensated by buying explicit boysex manga at the Borders.

see but they aren't, cause they have lots of fat. or maybe it's sugar, i don't know. everything has too much of something, it's all getting kind of blurry.

this is a global conspiracy to get me to eat tofu.

yeah, you know eating decently is kind of expensive? it also doesn't help that i kind of hate nearly all vegetables and fair number of fruits. So i'd rather put up with eating less of stuff i like than eating lots of crap i hate.

carrots, randomly, i can eat lots of.

I think that does help. It's okay to eat bad food sometimes, if you only have a little, rather than giving up entirely. Good luck!

Hurray for porn!

Boy do I remember. I did manage to get one year of college under my belt before Dad went jackass. It's a good thing I like most fruits and veggies, though. *munches on a whole tomato*

I like tofu!

What I do is to find some kind of fruit that you like (cause fruit is so much better than veggie) and put that out in the open so you will snack on it if you get hungry, and put stuff that is less good for you in hard to reach places. Because the same part of you that just wants to eat a friggin' piece of chocolate is also way too lazy to go down into the basement, unlock the door to the emergency food supply room, climb over the dusty boxes and get the candy. And if you do end up being that desperate, at least you got the exercise.

I started running. That sorta gives me license to eat more. Sorta.
I also discovered that I really, REALLY love dried fruit. Even the old-people snack of dried plums. Yes, prunes. Really, really good for you. And so damn tasty.

So, I don't buy chocolate. I buy grapes. Or plums. Or whatever.
I also dig "whole wheat" pasta. Usually fortified with all kinds of good healthy stuff.
Eggs, bananas, pasta... these things ARE good for you. And you need calories and fat to survive.

oh boy, do I hear you...

I've been doing the same thing--and I grew frustrated because calorically I was bordering on below-normal (like 1600 calories/day) and wayyyy below normal fat-wise.

And I was always hungry.

Some things to consider:
*dark chocolate is better for you, lower in fat and calories than regular milk chocolate, AND tastes richer so a single piece (if you savor it) satisfies cravings.
*grapes are nice and sweet if you crave sweet things.
*I try and be conscious of portion size--measuring out milk and cereal, being mindful of how much cheese I allow myself (oh, the cheese! the cheese!) and, most importantly for me, stopping when I'm full and not when I think I'm "finished."
*avocadoes are high in fat, but they're good fat--like the fat in olive oil. I can never remember the difference between saturated, unsaturated, trans, and mononucleosis (okay, this one is blatantly false) fats. BUT they're full of the good, heart-healthy, keeps-hair-shiny-and-skin-nice fats. So don't feel you need to deny yourself, just try and eat in moderation.

My problem is learning to eat in moderation rather than denying myself yummies and then binging on them.

I also crave certain textures and flavors at certain times--usually sweet late at night, which is when the grapes come in.

Eating healthy doesn't have to be expensive if you train yourself to enjoy simple flavors--why spend $4 on costly lo-fat salad dressing when you can appreciate how a dribble of olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and salt and pepper can complement a salad of spinach?

Writing stuff down has helped, but it's hard when you don't know the caloric content of something (ie, you eat at someone's house or you're at a restaurant). It is nice to be able to reward yourself with something (ie, porn) to keep yourself encouraged. It's hard making dietary changes, so good luck to you! I'm ALWAYS here to chat about food and healthful living!

writing things down is the only way anybody in my family gets anything done. that's how my dad quit smoking too. having no idea what things are worth is big drama, but the internet is really helpful, even for chain restaurants food (that's how i know about the green tea frappuchinos).

it hasn't been the end of the world this week because i've been in class so much of the time. hopefully being too busy this semester will help, because i won't be at home to eat anything 90% of the time.

also, finding out that it's a myth that eating late at night is worse for you than eating earlier in the day was something of a religious experience for me. because it isn't like i don't eat breakfast, but i can't eat very much, and i'd much rather transplant 200 calories or so to late night TV time, when i can actually enjoy it.

i just baked a quesadilla though, which isn't bad despite the paltry amount of cheese involved...mmm, cheese...
