My logic board is totally disintegrating again. First were the weird speaker problems (which fixed themselves?) and the trackpad strangeness (which sort of has to do with whether the thing is plugged in or not).

Now the ibook is freezing when i pick it up and move it around sometimes. The telltale sign? I can sometimes fix it by squeezing the case in just the right way. it's the vertical line disease, just without the vertical lines.

I realize that the machine has essentially been on constantly for the last three and a half years, excluding the 10 hours it took me to fly to England once. I use it too much, i've dropped it like a billion times, and it's hard drive is too full.

but i cannot replace it right now. It has to last until next fall when i will (purportedly) have like a real-life job.

Last week, for about 2 minutes, it was ticking. Like a bomb. *weeps*

PS-please to be giving me my comments, LJ, kthnx.

I'll insert your computer's continued well-being into my Santa Letter, would that be good? something like "PS. Please make sure that mousapelli's computer keeps working. thanks santa!" It sounds better if I ask for something non-selfish anyways, and that means there's a better chance of getting Alan Rickman under my tree this year. (last year, I think I was too naughty. no Alan)

*crosses fingers for the health of your iBook*

Couldn't you, like, trade it in for a $400 used iBook at Small Dog or something?

Ticking implies hard-drive trouble... which means that at any moment your hard drive is going to bye-bye. Guaranteed. I've had it happened. BACK EVERYTHING UP. Like, in multiple ways.

Also, if you run fewer applications at once, the OS won't be tempted to use the hard-drive as a scratch space for extra memory. Which stresses it out.

Also, if you throw stuff away, your hard drive won't have to hunt so hard to find pieces of files. (I'm less sure about that one).

Also... good luck with that job thing. Seriously.
If all else fails, well... I have seen you naked, and I'd say you'd make one heck of great exotic dancer.

Come write with us tonight?

lol! thanks, I need the luck probably. If it just makes a few more months, i think i'm going to have to take out loans to finish grad school anyhow.

And the real truth is, I can't not have a computer, so if it dies i will either have to borrow money from my parents or just put it on the credit card *wince*

I knew they did ipod trade-ins, but i didn't know about laptops. Honestly, though, if their laptops are from the same generation as mine, it'll have the same problems; that's why they had the huge logic board recall a few years ago and mine got replaced for free (again).

Yeah, i'm pretty well backed up usually, but i'll check everything today. *sigh*

honestly, with my educational discount, its actually cheaper to get a new powerbook from apple than from smalldog. I don't know exactly what their trade-in thing is all about though, and i'm having trouble tracking it down on the website.

You have not seen me naked, Douglas. Unless there's a little hole in our bathroom that I am not aware of. And besides, i look silly with those twirly nipple things strippers have to wear.

I had the same problem with my logic board in my lil ibook :( except mine wasn't freezing as much as it was refusing to keep it's screen lit without squeezing a point to the left just underneith the keyboard...hmmmm...I wish they'd just recall them...I actually had to pay to get mine fixed but they replaced the logic board with another faulty one so, though it works no problem it sometimes goes into spaz mode (lol my computer's name happens to be Craggle Spaz) and all sorts of colors come up on screen...when it stops it returns to normal though....

note: mine was ticking to....when it stares whistling is when you have a serious problem (one that's like "OMG run run!!!!" then it really starts going crazy...pray it doesn't happen while going through airline security like mine did.....I haven't quite forgiven him for that yet >_<

Gah!!! Mine's not so great either. Jeff swears it's my fault (for using Photoshop or something) and he's on his *second* new computer, neither of which I'm allowed to use. I mean, my "new" one is 500 MHz!

Mine has a loose port where the power plugs in so it randomly turns off. And the N key is broken. Wait, I should be telling Jeff this instead. Yours ticking is the scariest thing EVER though.

all ibooks are like that, this is my third logic board (but apple has replaced both the fried ones for free). Yeah, the colors thing is vertical line disease. sometimes i could squeeze my case around and fix it, other times i had to hard re-start it. it was only a problem when the laptop wasn't on a hard surface. So it was, in effect, a desktop.

Yeah, i've heard a few people say the ticking just happened and then went away. While i'm sure it's a sign of nothing good, i think if i'm careful about not straining the HD i can hopefully make this thing last until i can replace it.

I'm totally going powerbook after this. No more ibook logicboards for me.

what does using photoshop have to do with anything? o.O other than, it makes your cpu work pretty hard i suppose. Adobe has great programs, but it really needs to work on its load times.

My plug thinger is a little loose too, but i've gone through like three power cords anyway, between the rat and natural fraying.

*is backing up, which is tedious, thankless work*

and a co-worker is borrowing my dvd burner. grrr.

Yeah, that's something I really didn't need to know.

OMG, I think you've really forgotten!

Okay... think back to last spring.

It is a memory hog program, but it's not as bad as he thinks. Or he'll say I look at stupid websites, which is partly true because there are annoying Flash ads that will kill the browser.

My plug died because once of the vacuum cleaner. I mean, a horrible, two-feet-sucked-up-inside death.

Backing up sucks. I am SO overdue. Jeff promised to help, but now his second harddrive is being switched to his new computer, so it will never get done. And here I thought having an engineer was supposed to be helpful! *Pout*
