I just found out that my main choice for grad school requires a reading knowledge of a modern foreign language, and most of the other ones "strongly advise" it. MAYBE MY FUCKING ADVISOR SHOULD HAVE STOPPED PLANNING RETIREMENT LONG ENOUGH TO TELL ME THAT BEFORE SPRING OF MY SENIOR YEAR.

And while we're on the topic of F&M's stellar Classics department, is it REALLY necessary to have a test in a class where you are the only student?! Can you HONESTLY not tell how i'm doing when i translate ALL class EVERY class TWICE A WEEK?! and btw, sight translations are NOT COOL.

Hate. Everything. esp YOU classics department diediedie

I cannot BELIEVE he didn't tell you about the language thing...it's like, STANDARD, for grad schools in the humanities and social sciences.
You should look into whether or not you could do an intensive summer language program before starting grad school (if that's what you want to do) to at least get the basics down...

Intensive Summer Course = Good

K. is right - the summer course is a great option. AND, you can comment on that in your application - that you're planning to take the course over the summer - and they may overlook it in that case. (Nathan McG. needed the same sort of deal for his grad applications but he mentioned that he was planning to take a summer course and he didn't have much of a prob. (of course he also didn't take said course over the summer...so who knows WHAT's going on there! a bunch of california hippies, if you ask me! ;o))

Sorry to hear about the stress, though :( ... and i completely agree - testing for your greek is just silly. 1) because it's homer and so it just sucks and 2) because, as you said, you're the only person in the bloody class, for chrissakes! ah, for the days of the flowers... *grin*

Michelle (in the not so hot anymore - THANK GOD! - arizona!)
