The modem came today, and as soon as I looked thoughtfully at the cheerful "You can do it yes you can!" self-install kit, i said "this is not going to work."

And it didn't, and I can tell you why: cause i don't already have comcast anything else.

Sure enough, I call them and say, you know you sent me this install kit and...and the lady was like "why on earth would they do that?" "I HAVE NO IDEA" is of course the answer. And also, in case you ever need to know this, you have to have SOME kind of tv to have comcast internet.

so now i am signed up for the "nobody really has cable this pathetic" cable plan, which is like $9 a month, and the guy is scheduled to do the magic, ie, unscrew the tiny piece of plastic inhibiting my cable.

For $30.

Two Fridays from now.

This seems shady to me. Back in 2000, when I was a poor college student, I got cable internet without having any kind of cable tv--it took a lot of 'yes, I really want this, and no, I really don't want tv', but they did it for me. Maybe their policies have changed, but it's totally physically possible to have cable internet without cable tv.

oh, it's physically possible for sure, Comcast just won't do it. Or if they will, it cancels out any sort of promotion they have going, and I'm sure not paying them $59.95 a month for internet, you know, ever.

It's not like i won't have TV eventually, i just don't want to do it the for real cable package for a month or two because i'm a little wiped out from moving, buying some furniture, and then having the ungodly car bill at exactly the wrong time.

We'll see what happens.

I would call them back and politely say, as this is your error insofar as sending me this without setting up installation etc, I expect you to make it right by moving me up in your queue, kthx.

Oh boy, I'm getting Comcast internet Saturday. With no TV or cable. Should I be scared? They said my internet was going to be $52 a month plus $100 installation, and I said hell no, called back and asked if there would be any specials. So now it's $33 plus $25 installation. I hope...

Dude, my house had to buy cable we didn't want too, and we don't even have a cord to plug it into the TV. Lol. Most useless service in the world. Like I have time in my life for goddamned TV.

that sounds about right? so long as the guy shows up to do whatever, i'm sure he'll tell you what's going on. My problem was that they were trying to get me to do the self-install.
