that is not a euphemism for anything, she really does. She sits in my lap for 5-min stretches, which is about unheard of, and watches it on my laptop, and last night when Pavelski scored a goal when she was sitting there she made a satisfied little "KEK" noise. I decided I was going to watch the Sharks since they have the same initials as me and the time change makes it easy to watch them play during chinchilla time. In the time I've been typing this Yuri has come over twice to sit in my lap, then run off again when hockey has not been presented to her. It doesn't happen every night, brat!

Latin festival is over for another year which is a huge relief. It actually went sort of okay, no big disasters this year, so I should be thankful. Just a month of school left. I might make it.

speaking of that, I have to pull my life together about this Japan trip but honestly I don't know where to start since some of it hinges on concerts and what other people are doing. Also it's normal work time for everybody so a lot of it will be me entertaining myself. I don't really know where I'm going or staying or what I'm doing. i'm having a lot of trouble pulling myself together Orz

that's about it I guess? Spent all weekend sleeping and i needed it but on the other hand laundry has reached critical mass. Uuuuugh.

i will not delve into the details of this but I had an incredibly frustrating field trip today that will hopefully be funny at some future point. I'm sure my version of events will make other people laugh tomorrow at lunch, but that is not the same as me thinking it's funny myself.

you know, that's a really good allegory for my whole life. I don't even know why I'm mad about the stupid field trip, but hopefully this pervasive sense of just fuck everything, i can't is PMS and will go away after a while. as it is I had to stop watching Sense 8 halfway through episode 10 because it was just making me cry.

I finished the Raven King on the bus. There was an odyssey across the river to get this book last night after Amazon changed the arrival date from "release day 4/26" to "maybe by July 7th." my reaction to the book overall was disappointingly neutral but maybe that's because of the melodrama surrounding all the other parts of today, and also what I get for getting really excited about something. Dream Thieves is still my favorite. if anybody wants to talk about it, I can say what I thought in comments but otherwise I'm going to give it a few days.

I went and painted a vase with ladybugs on it for my pottery place's vase contest. I needed to do something calming. it almost worked but then my parents called me 3 times about the hockey game tomorrow which centered around pick-up time confusion and the fact that my mother persistently says "just bring a friend~" as if i have twenty of them hanging around. newflash: i was at the pottery place alone because that's like -200% reality.

Steven Universe is coming back in May, at least.

Kisumai's album looks good, in terms of extras and solos.

the KuroTsukki is at 13k but I can't seem to finish it.

my grad school advisor said i don't have to take a class this summer. that sounds fabulous.

Have you read any Check Please? It's an amazing, adorable comic about hockey at Samwell college and the main character is the cutest little thing from Georgia who bakes pies for his hockey team, and you should read it okay? But the main pairing is Jack Zimmerman/Eric Bittle (he's the baker) and so it's called Zimbits.

Well, [personal profile] beltenebra came to visit me this weekend, and we decided that Zimbits sounded like a cookie. A delicious cookie that had peach and ginger for Bitty and maple for Jack. AND THEN WE MADE IT HAPPEN.

Zimbits (Peach Ginger Shortbread Bar Cookies with Maple Buttercream Frosting)

Sidenote: we debated a version where you soak the peaches with bourbon and call it "Faber After Dark."

credits: We got the original peach shortbread recipe from Smitten Kitchen before we modified it a little, and then googled a generic buttercream icing recipe to add the maple syrup.

1/2 cup brown sugar (I used dark)
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 3/4 cups cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon fresh grated ginger
1 teaspoon Pumpkin pie spice (it's a mixture of cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves McCormick sells)
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 sticks (8 Tbl) browned butter (see below)
1 large egg
2 peaches, pitted and sliced (mine were frozen from summer so it was more like goo)

2 sticks (8 Tbl) unsalted butter, at room temperature
3/4 cup powdered sugar
1 cup maple syrup
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt

Browning butter (From Smitten Kitchen): Melt butter in a small/medium saucepan over medium-low heat. It will melt, then foam, then turn clear golden and finally start to turn brown and smell nutty. Stir frequently, scraping up any bits from the bottom as you do. Keep your eyes on it; it burns very quickly after it browns and the very second that you turn around to do something else. Set it in the freezer until solid (about 30 minutes).

1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Butter a 9×13 inch pan.

2. Slice peaches and mix with a couple extra shakes of the pie spices. Since mine had thawed from the freezer we had to strain a of liquid out here. You could probably add a little extra maple syrup here if you wanted.

3. Combine brown sugar, baking powder, flour, salt, and pie spice. Scrape in the solidified brown butter and add the egg; SK recommended using a fork or your fingers instead of the stand mixer so that it turns crumbly.

4. Put most of this in the bottom of the greased pan, but leave enough out that you can sprinkle another thin layer over the top of the fruit (we saved about 1/4 but I could have gone for more fruit less crumble on top). Press the bottom layer down firmly with your fingers.

5. Layer the peaches on top of the shortbread base, or, in my case, spread the goo around. Put the rest of the crumb over top.

6. Bake for ~30 minutes, until the edges are turning brown and everything is set. Ours was done at 27 minutes, so check it early. Let cool most of the way before icing.

While bars are baking, make the buttercream maple icing. We did use the stand mixer for this step.

7. Cream butter and powdered sugar until blended.

8. Add vanilla, maple syrup, salt. Use the whisk attachment at decently high speed until it looks like icing. We had trouble getting it to smooth out, so Amy melted a cup's worth of the mixture in the microwave, then tossed it back in with the rest, and then everything was fine. We let ours sit at room temperature, but if you wanted stiffer frosting you could put it in the fridge a bit.

9. Once the bars are cooled, spread the frosting on top. Enjoy your Zimbits! Here they are again because they were so worth it:

It's birthday week for both me and princess Shinchilla -- her ownership anniversary was yesterday (15th - Tax Day) and mine is coming up on the 19th. Dad kept badgering me about what I wanted (nothing? for it to be summer? to not have my birthday be the terrible sex anniversary?) and in the end I asked to go to one of the playoff hockey games for our nearly by minors team.

That's the fault of Check Please coming back from hiatus and everybody on my tlist discovering it and then being linked a 150k fic which was the best Check Please fic that can possibly exist. I'm about the worst sports follower in humanity but I like hockey okay? I should learn to follow some team like it's a fandom so I have some chance of talking to a live person about a thing I like. Some small, tiny chance.

Also my mom came over and we sewed a new duvet cover for my comforter because I couldn't find a new one that I liked, so I just bought fabric. It was kind of like sewing a giant pillowcase, only I underestimated how much of a struggle sewing something that big would be, so it was good there was two of us. My sewing machine continues to hold up like a champ, but honestly I should probably take it into the repair place and have it cleaned/tuned up because it's starting to click a little. I don't want it to blow up!

Last Raven Boys book out sooooooon. I meant to reread but idk how far I'll get with that (see above re 150k fic). Oh, and Amy is coming to visit this weekend! Yay! I'm super excited about that.
mousapelli: (Default)
THIS WEEK. oh my god this week.

A bunch of other stuff happened, but it was the kind of stuff which is annoying but super tiny so you can't even tell anybody why it's annoying, but then after all of that I came home really late from school to find my entire bathroom and hallway flooded. It was amazing. Turns out my upstairs neighbor incorrectly installed, wait for it, an illegal bidet.

at first the problem seemed just outside the bathroom, but by the next night it had clearly soaked all through my carpet and was coming up under everything heavy in 3 different rooms. so two bookcases are probably ruined, all the chinchilla's play stuff had to be flipped over to dry in the kitchen, and now i have piles of books/stuff covering every surface of the rest of my apartment. I've been wearing the same t-shirt for two days because I can't get to my dresser. I have industrial fans blowing under my carpet and I have to leave them there until Sunday so I'm sure this electric bill is gonna be fabulous. Also their job is to dry everything out so I woke up with a headache and a nosebleed this morning.

I have to do schoolwork all weekend~ both for school school and grad school. i hate everything~ it's the end of the quarter and everybody took a test i have to grade on top of their stupid projects~

In more hilarious news, one of the teachers i have to meet with had a concussion a couple weeks ago, so I have to keep texting and calling her to make sure she remembers that we talked about meeting. This is my third phone call and she hasn't remembered any of them so far. Her husband keeps telling her they have a new hot tub and then laughing when she believes him over and over.
mousapelli: (Default)
We're five episodes into Yorozu Uranaidokoro Onmyoya e Yokoso (the hell is the abbreviation for that thing) and every time Ryo goes "Ohoho" all three of us crack up. I'm not even sure why it's so funny -- except that Ryo's giant hat can kind of make anything funny. I like it a lot, although the 5th one about the girl who liked stars was unexpectedly tear-jerking.

Also I made homemade karaage (like fried chicken, but ginger-soy and fried in potato starch) and holy shit I'm never going back to that packet I had been buying before. I cannot wait to eat more of it cold for lunch tomorrow. On the other hand I accidentally dropped a big piece back in the oil and burned the everliving shit out of my palm when I caught like a spoon's worth of oil in my hand. DO NOT RECOMMEND. I don't know what's wrong with me lately.

I did so much nothing over my 5-day break and I needed every second of it, plus a bunch more seconds that I can't have. I feel slightly more like I might be able to survive this school year, whereas middle of last week I was getting less and less sure. I think the worst part is how burned out the kids seem too, and how many take zeros for refusing to turn in projects. I'm glad every single day that I don't teach a core subject, because if I had a bunch of parents and administrators riding me all the time about the amount of kids I am surely going to fail this year...I wouldn't work at my school, if that were the case, I guess.

Been working on this fic for days and tipped over the point where I know the amount of effort I've put into it has far surpassed any interest other people will express in it. Ehhhhhh.
mousapelli: (Default)
I swear to god it never fails that when I'm already at the end of my patience the last thing that happens is always so stupid that I look like some sort of crazed asshole when I lose my shit over it. In other words the chinchilla ate half a keyboard key again. It's so annoying because she knows she's being an asshole, it only happens when i've fallen asleep on my face so it's really my fault, and then i get to spend two days worrying that shards of plastic will kill her.

Tomorrow just cannot end fast enough. I need this break so badly. I just want to lie here and watch the rest of the Twilight Zones on netflix and try to regain enough sanity that I have half a chance of not getting fired over the remaining 50-some school days. Also i have to do my grad school project so that it's just over with.

At least the quiche i had to make for lunch tomorrow turned out all right. My mom had to type up the recipe for me because I guess she has a really old handwritten one from who knows where, so she typed in a bunch of strange comments because she is my mother ("I use frozen pie crust now - didn't have those in the 70s HAHAHA"). I tried making margarita chicken in the crockpot using the leftover margarita mix, but honestly I couldn't taste it at all in the end product. I would have done a lot better just to squeeze a couple limes in there.

I had my hair cut and recolored yesterday and my hair dresser did something weirder than usual which I'm not a fan of. Everyone at school was like 'oh you're trying something new' and I was like "I wasn't trying to, believe me." Hopefully after it grows out a week or two i'll think it's less stupid, but nothing is going to help the fact that one of my blonde streaks is right where I part my hair, so it looks like there's way more blonde than there should be. This is just not my week.
mousapelli: (Default)
Listening to new Kisumai single and I'm really pleased with it. Somehow I didn't even see a preview of the PV, weirdly, so after chinchilla time i get to watch my DVD. ABC-Z's movie was cute too, although I have to say that I was much more invested in Kawai as the flower seller than Hasshi and Tottsu + girl. My headcanon is they hook up at the end. Anyway it's Magic Week for Kisumai because of Tama's birthday and Miyata gets solo lines to start "Welcome" so I'm happy for them.

In other fannish news, I watched half of the Haikyuu stage show before I got interrupted by my class (more on that below) and it's weird but cool? I really liked the character intros, and how sometimes they put up bits of the comic on the screen. And even though it's weird, I think the way they handle live people trying to do these strange jumps and volleyball moves is pretty cool. Also their Suga is ADORABLE and their Ukai is perfect.

Class was horrendous last night, haha. Prof's mic was broken, so it was 2 hrs of classmate presentations, which are supposed to be 20 min and it took over the whole 2 hrs, so let me tell you how that went. Meanwhile some very old dude who has his wife's number wrong called me (this is not a lie) 19 times during my class and immediately after, and a couple more times today which is even more perplexing. Have you not seen your wife in 24 hours?! Also, my fricking voicemail SAYS MY NAME for fuck's sake. I know I should just answer the phone but I hate the phone and seriously? If you have called someone 18 times without them answering, do you really think time 19 is the magic number?

ugh whatever. I'm so unbearably exhausted this week that even minor annoyances seem like huge struggles. I have to get up early on saturday ofc but after that I'm going to do absolutely nothing and try to dredge up enough energy to limp to Easter break.
mousapelli: (Default)
I made margarita bars (like lemon bars, but you use margarita mix instead of lemon) and both times I did it, the crust layer doesn't turn out right? the first time it was too thick and this time i reduced the flour and then it wasn't crumbly at all. WHATEVER. Next time I'll just go get some other lemon bar recipe for the bottom part because the filling tastes fine. Well, except for how my oven isn't level, so one side of anything I bake is always noticeably thicker. seriously I'm the worst baker, and also I stupidly agreed to make coffee cake for a thing on Friday because I'm dumb.

Only one more day of actual teaching this week, which on the one hand is nice, but on the other hand I am totally not going to get through all the junk I want to before spring break. Oh well. My kids just get me back again so I don't care~ also today was meetings with the other side of the district, and I was blackly amused because the one teacher who is always a struggle to work with was complaining that her new hire co-teacher is...wait for it...difficult to work with. HAHAHA.

I really have to take down my christmas tree. like really. It's shameful.

Worf is getting married on my TV, to Dax, and it's kind of freaking me out. But in all fairness I sleep through half the episodes at this point (SO TIRED) so honestly I can't follow the thread of anything that's going on. We don't have much more of DS9 to finish, so I'm not sure what we'll watch for chinchilla tv time after that.

Drama night finished Seishun Tantei Haruya and i really enjoyed it! Tama is seriously cute in it, and all the little mysteries were fun. I got pretty good at figuring them out, but in the last episode my mom was hilariously the only one who got it right. I'm not sure what we're watching next but I have some recommendations from Amy that I'll take a look at. I'm debating trying Mars too, since it's getting subbed really fast and I think mom would like it, but maybe we'll take a break and do a couple movies or something.

I feel like I used up all my emotions for the whole month on fannish stuff this weekend, between the Haikyuu! chapter, the Check Please update, and then marathoning pretty much all of Gravity Falls.

Check Please I can summarize as yesssssssssss.

New Haikyuu! chapter I will have to cut because spoilers )

so then I watched Gravity Falls basically in about 3 days, and you should watch it too because it was really good. The characters were enjoyable, the music was good, it had a nice sci-fi creepy vibe to it (for something that aired on the disney channel anyway), and it was meant to stop at the end of the second season so it had a clear narrative arc and good pacing.

Somehow by the end of it I was crying over Great Uncle Stan. MY FEELINGS. cut for more feeings )

so yeah, it was so good, mainlined like that, but I'm so sad it's over!
mousapelli: (Default)
expectation: what's the worst they can do, fire me from doing this volunteer thing that I hate anyway? Good, i want to be fired.
reality: they fired the only person who ever helps me instead. WELL PLAYED.

There's an early West Wing episode where Josh says "I'm so sick of congress I could vomit" and that's exactly how I feel about a lot of people I could name at the moment. This morning I just sat in the car and cried before work because I swear to god I am at the absolute end of my rope.

I am going to spend all weekend sleeping and it still won't be enough. I can't even name an amount of sleep that will come close to being enough. I'm not even sure one weekend will be enough to make it so that I stop hating the face of every adult that I have to look at.

I'm useless for anything except for watching Gravity Falls. It's sort of like a harmless, funny version of X-files sci-fi type stuff. I just want to hug Dipper all the time, and Mabel cracks me up. I can see why I was seeing so much crossover art and stuff for Steven Universe/Gravity Falls, because Steven and Mabel would love each other. I've been trying to catch up with Busaiku and Gamushara some too, although I'm so far behind on Busaiku it's kind of stupid at this point.

I wish I had more Kyouryuuger to watch. or more Captive Prince to read. I should start rereading Raven Boys though, since we're finally coming to the release date of the last one. I still haven't pre-ordered mine, even. Ehhh.
mousapelli: (Default)
Went away for a friend's birthday party this weekend, which was fun but exhausting. She had rented a vacation house up in the mountains, and we went tubing on Saturday morning, which was fun since I had never done it before and don't ski or anything. We went out to dinner at a nice place and mostly just hung around and played cards and whatever. The mattress I was sleeping on was terrible, though. This morning I woke up from a dream which centered on how my back hurt because when I woke up, that's exactly how my back hurt.

I, predictably, ran out of people energy sometime Saturday night, which probably would have happened anyway because only two of the people were people I know. I tried not to be a pill about it but honestly I was already feeling lonely and sad even without drinking (I'm the saddest drunk on the earth, so that was absolutely out), and being surrounded by other people makes that feel a lot worse. I'm not even sure what set me off, other than school exhaustion and lady times arriving on Friday.

Or maybe it's just the fact that it was an extended birthday thing and mine is soon and I'm already dreading it as the terrible anniversary that it is. Anyway, I survived the weekend, and my mother randomly cleaned out the guinea pigs so I don't even have to do that.

I watched the Kyouryuuger movie instead, which was hysterical and bizarre. All six of those actors are pretty amazing for what is supposed to be a kid's show, since they all play opposite personalities in the movie and it's really believable. Meanwhile I've been convinced David Duchovny is Fox Mulder since about 1995.

I read the last two books of the Captive Prince trilogy just as quickly as the first book. It was really, really good. If you want a fast-read fantasy with prince on prince action, I absolutely recommend that trilogy. I should have saved one of them to take on this trip this weekend but NOPE.

and then I started Gravity Falls which seems cute enough even if it doesn't fill me with the boundless glee that Steven Universe does. I might watch more of it tonight after I catch up with last week's Haikyuu!.
mousapelli: (Default)
in today's funny news, my new next door neighbor came over to ask if he could pay me to use my wifi until the end of the month when his is scheduled to be turned on, so I wrote down my network's name/password for him, and I wrote "(all lowercase)" underneath the password. So he comes back over a couple minutes later to say he can't log on.

He was typing the words "all lowercase." I was like, oh sweetie. ahahahaha.

In grownup news, half my building hates me right now, and at least half of my irritation comes from the fact that this is the story of my life in 3 steps:

1. people tell me I should be in charge of a thing because I don't put up with bullshit.
2. some people are bullshit, and I refuse to put up with it.
3. people tell me how mean/terrible/bad at this thing I am for not taking their bullshit.

Honestly I wish they would all start hating me enough to kick me out of my position, because I really don't fucking need it. God, if only they would rise up and depose and do it their own fucking selves, so that I could just stay in my room, which is all I wanted to do in the first place.

I finished watching Kyouryuuger and cried about four times during the last two episodes. IT'S SO GOOD. If you like toku at all, you should watch it. Actually, even if you just like awesome leaders and badass girls and questionable sword training and you don't mind the mecha dinosaurs, you should try it anyway. I wish Daigo was my leader in real life.

I read Captive Prince in one sitting and then had to wait a week for the second book to get here uuuuugh. So I'm going to start it in a minute here, but I cannot stay up all night like I did with the other one because I'm already cranky enough this week, and also I have a class presentation tomorrow.

I saw Deadpool and thought it was pretty fucking good. I was totally surprised when spoiler ) And I was there with RL, non-fannish people, so I couldn't even turn to them to be like OMG DID YOU SEE THAT??? Because too much explaining. It's not even a thing I'm especially into, I just was psyched to see it.
mousapelli: (Default)
Despite the crazy snowstorm, I managed to sneak up to NYC just before it hit and hang out with Amy for the weekend. We watched my Kis-My-World DVDs and her Digitalian DVDs. I was super impressed with Arashi's concert by the way; I like them enough but they usually don't impress me. I just thought their concept was super cool and I liked all the songs, and the wifi uchiwa were AMAZING. oh man, I hope other groups start to do that because COOL.

KMW is really good too XD I love those duets so, so much. It's hard tmlo put my finger on a couple things I liked specifically about it -- I just felt like in general it was a much more even concert in terms of a lot of things, that all the members were treated more equally, and that everyone was doing more things that they wanted to do personally. Also i liked this album more in general. Everything felt more like them.

Well and Tamamori and Miyata got married on stage so there is that. It was everything I wanted and more. unlike this batch of Busaikus I just watched, one of which was a student confessing to teacher theme. nooooooooo oh god, that makes me so uncomfortable.

Had a couple days off work because of the snow but I have to go back tomorrow so it's going to be a little painful, haha. I wish i could say I did a bunch of stuff but mostly I crocheted and watched Kyouryuuger (which I sang the theme to successfully at karaoke, weirdo dinosaur names and everything). Sentais are a little goofy, which is why I usually prefer the Kamen Riders, but I'm enjoying this one a lot. Also I enjoy how unambiguous who I am supposed to ship is (Red/Gold, Green/Black, in case you needed to know that).

And x-files started! I watched the first one yesterday and might watch the second one tonight before bed. Are they on some weird schedule or something? Why were there two this week?
mousapelli: (Default)
I'm supposed to drive up to visit Amy sat-sun, so OFC now it's like oh hey lets have a snowstorm. Unimpressed, Zeus. UNIMPRESSED. Stuff always arrives later than they say, though so I'm kind of hoping I might skate in right under it.

I think Shinchilla is engineering this somehow so I can't leave.

Kira is watching every Toku show under the sun at the moment (the title of this post is one of her comments about Gaim), and so I ended up starting Kyouryuuger, which is the one about dinosaurs. It's fun! Usually I go more for Kamen Rider shows, but I like King and also Ian's shadiness. Plus the song is really catchy.

Class this semester is much more interesting, which is great, but it's also going to be a lot more work, clearly. Better a hard good class than an easy annoying one, but I'm just not sure I have it in me with this school year the way it's been. More than half the students in my class already picked their project topics and books to review and I'm just like, don't you people have jobs?!

I've been crocheting a bunch of these slouchy urban beanies, like I made one for secret santa and now people at school think they're cool or something XD they're super easy and really forgiving, so even if you're a beginning crocheter, you should give it a shot.

okay i am going back to watching more dinosaurs because blooooob.
mousapelli: (Default)
At the moment I'm randomly obsessed with these two songs: Sirensby Nieves (that link's to the whole EP because yes) and Forest Fire by Brighton.

I made awesome meatloaf, despite the fact that both intended eaters of said meatloaf flaked out on me at the last second. Actually all 3, because my dad was supposed to come get some and then he backed out too. Well, that's fine. I'll enjoy all the meatloaf myself. Alone. Because chinchillas don't eat that.

Also it snowed! First snow! but it got me out of nothing, though, so not THAT exciting. When we get the first snow day, then i'll be excited.

I started the temperature blanket. After some discussion with lunch group, we realized you would never get to all the colors if you did a whole row, so I decided on 100 stitches in each color. I did the first 11 days worth yesterday to catch up while I mainlined Nurse Jackie (that's kind of ironic). Hopefully that will carry me far enough into summer to need all my colors. It's kind of all a hot mess but cute, though.

First class tomorrow night for new semester and I'm kind of nervous, but by chance we're starting with an author I read with my students all the time, so that should be okay. But seriously, I'm stretched more or less to the max at the moment, so if this class is any more challenging than last semester's (which was zero percent challenging), I don't know what I'm going to do. Cry, I guess. Meanwhile I continue to ceaselessly create new stuff for all of my levels at school in a panicky sort of right-against-the-wire way, which is a skill that nobody appreciates, let me tell you. Lately I despair of ever reaching a point where it's not like this always. Even when I finish making this junk, next year they'll just force me to do something else.

I wrote Seven Days fic over on Shiritori (Go At Your Own Pace) because I'm still not over that kiss scene. Sooooo cute. So nice to have a BL movie that isn't sad or violent or just bizarre.
mousapelli: (Default)
This week was Steven Bomb! Oh man, I was so excited for my show to be back!! I sort of wish we were on a regular tv weekly schedule, but ehh, since they're only 11 minutes maybe a week of back-to-back is better than the drag between episodes of full weeks.

Are you watching this show yet?! It has ladies and excellent songs and hijinks and awesome ladies and Steven. Steven is perfect. He gets it from his dad (who in a canonic conversation was told that his problem was that he prefers one gigantic lady to lots of regular ones).

spoiler cut for this week's flail condensed into one post: clod clod clod )

Ugh it's so flawless uuuuuugh.

Also this week I watched both Seven Days movies, since the second one just got subbed by Aarinfantasy, and oh man. They're a little slow but SWEET and CUTE and oh my god the kissing. The second kissing scene are the best movie kisses everrrrrr. It has a happy ending and nobody dies and nothing weird or violent happens, so I recommend it whole-heartedly to you. The only other BL movie I can name that's no angst/no weirdness is Ai no Kotodama (which I also recommend).

I like kissing so much. I don't know why there isn't a softcore studio that makes tons of money just filming guys having awkward dates and holding hands and kissing and did I mention being awkward. You would have to pay dudes way less to do that than fuck each other, I have to imagine, and I cannot be the only person who would throw so much money at them. (Dear JE you could just film Genki/Jinguji walking around, that would be close enough, because if they are not for serious dating I will eat this pen).

I have to have to finish JE United this weekend, which is like maybe half done, because once school started i was useless. And my online class starts a week late so I even had the week off that, but it didn't matter. Last night I fell asleep for two hours on the floor during chinchilla time, which let me tell you is NOT preferable. Craaaaaash.

I'm going to start a temperature blanket, which is where you crochet a row a day for whatever the temperature is that day, so you get like a crazy rainbow thing at the end. i barely had to even buy any yarn (because I'm a hoarder) so I have 12 colors that are kind of muted rainbow rather than crayony. A friend at school is doing it too, so I used the internet to dig up what the temperature was at noon so far since Jan 1. If my birthday was closer, I'd start from there, but it's not until april so ehh.

I am gonna bake the no knead bread tomorrow, and I hope it doesn't suck because I'm not supposed to be eating bread anyway. But I have all this bread flour I accidentally bought instead of all-purpose.

Happy new year, all. I had the usual new years date:

I meant to post last night around midnight, but I was watching a bunch of Twilight Zones, as is my wont, and then I passed out on the couch. because I don't have real cable anymore I'm netflixing the Twilight Zones and it stuns me that after 30+ years of marathons during new years and July 4ths, there are still some I've never seen. I'm sort of bummed out that once I've netflixed them, that can't happen anymore.

My favorites are the one about the lady in the hospital with the bandages on her face, and the camera that shoots the future, and the creepy doll (who doesn't love that one), and the woman driving who sees the same guy hitchhiking. Oh, and "Room for one more, honey." Any of you guys have any favorites?

I made this sour cream coffee cake from Smitten Kitchen for my dad's birthday cake, but I did it in a bundt pan and it came out like magic. Totally recommend that one. I whipped egg whites myself and everything. Also I got myself a used cookie book (the book is used, not the cookies), and I'm looking forward to trying some new stuff with the crazy mixer.

I should update my website. a lot.

I have a couple more days off from school so I'm planning on doing not that much with other people to try and recharge. Crocheting and writing, ideally. Seems like it's finally going to get cold and stay that way, so I'll just hang out here on my couch. Maybe catch up on Gamushara or Busaiku, or popcorntime a bunch of movies.

Countdown was really good this year ♥ I loved the pair songs, and everybody looked happy. Sorry we didn't get to see Snowman monkeys or Shintarou's first countdown, but ahh, you can't have everything I guess. I hope wherever snowstones and the other older juniors were, they had a good night and saw first sunrise.

Used the KitchenAid to make ALL THE COOKIES this weekend. We did more browned butter coconut, and chocolate with mint chips, and cranberry orange, and the shortbread recipe Juri did on that cooking show the one time, haha. I wonder if Tanaka-mama has any idea a bunch of fangirls use her family recipe all over the place. The stand mixer made everything so easy we were like 'okay what else can we make????'

Then tonight we watched 6-10 episodes of Haikyuu because sometimes sports stuff is okay for mom and I love Haikyuu so much, and she did okay with FREE, and anyway I'm just waiting for Tama's thing to finish up or get close before I try and start it. Asahi and Suga are my favorites, and I can't understand why none of the writers I see around ship them at all.

Here are a bunch of reasons why I do:
*they call each other 'Asahi' and 'Suga' no honorifics. I think Suga's the only one to call him plain Asahi instead of Asahi-san or Azumane.
*Suga going to Asahi's classroom and looming over his desk to beg him to come back
*Suga immediately switching to the Neighborhood Association side to toss for Asahi
*"ASAHI, LET ME TOSS TO YOU AGAIN" "...the toss I've thrown to him so many times"
*"The toss thrown just for me...I lack for nothing..."
*Coach Ukai comments immediately that it's a toss/trust that shows they've practiced it together over and over and over for a long time (dude where is my flashback of this)
*Suga calling Asahi weird nicknames and jabbing him in the side
*they sleep next to each other at training camp (and obvs stayed up WAY too late)
*they're always lurking around in manga panels together, seriously always
*Suga's eyedot and Asahi's manbun (okay this isn't a reason why, I just love them both)

I mean, I see the other pairings and stuff, and I think the 3rd Year trio could be in any combination and I would buy it, but I don't get why there's hardly any of this specific one. It's so cute!

almost break, almost break, almost break...

lately every day my life is a lot like this:

stayed up till 2am finishing taking my online final get up early go to school early finish scarf that's due for holiday party tomorrow quick try to fix tomorrow's test while class works on today's study guide (x3 because I teach all levels) copy tomorrow's test during lunch drop off scarf with lady eat lunch in ten minutes shit i didn't print AP's test grade half the projects stay after school to help teach students how to arm-knit meet other latin teacher to make new test for next week and new packet for after break then go pick up mugs we painted for new teachers so tomorrow morning I can get up early to go to school early to give people their mugs before morning coffee shop...

I am getting all sorts of shit done, so on the one hand it's satisfying, you feel like "LOOK I DID ALL THE SHIT TODAY ALL OF IT I AM AMAZING." But on the other hand it's like this unendingly so sooner or later I'm just going to drop dead. Today i was so exhausted from sleeping ~3 hours a night all week that every other sentence I would flip all the letters in my words ("Find a good stop to spot in your test"), which my kids think is hilarious but really is a sign of the kind of sleep deprivation where I pass out on my desk during study hall because it's too quiet for too long.

fortunately the other symptom of that much sleep deprivation for me is that everything becomes hilarious. other latin teacher also suffers from this so Thursday nights at the coffee shop, we'll be sitting in the corner just cracking up over verb conjugations and doing effeminate impressions of Caesar ("dear diary, today Vercingetorix was SO MEAN to me...")

but anyway this semester's grad class is done, thank god, and aside from grading next week should be tame because i refuse to back up all my unit tests against break, so projects/work days. And basically all of my Christmas shopping was done kind of early, so I think all that's left is for mom and me to bake cookies this weekend. in my new Boysenberry kitchenaid! I used it to make brown butter coconut cookies last week and holy shit they were good.

FREE Starting Days extended PV and my heeeeeeeeart. I made undignified noises. Grumpy's Haru's little grumpy faces and awkward kids and ahhhhh Rin rinrinrin and "when you believe, then you become a team" fuckkkkkkkk. Sometimes I wish I had learned no Japanese at all because understanding stuff makes it all that much more fafklgljtaklejralja. JUST TAKE MY HEART, DISGRUNTLED SWIMMING TEAM, I DIDNT NEED IT ANYWAY.
