so, I just gave IRC a shot for the first time. It was scary and confusing. *pokes it cautiously*

what brought this on was that I read a crapload of Death Note, up to the end of Volume 5. it's OMFG amazing, because Raito and L are both batshit insane and hot like woah. anyway, the group who is doing them operates mostly via IRC.

I am not sure how. I watched people come and go like workers in an anthill, but associated about as much meaning to it.

perhaps i will investigate the torrent side of this instead, now that I am pretty close to caught up. anyway, i've already blown a few hours where i could have been doing something good.

next up: flocking the NaNo, and updating the site (already? christ!)

I'll admit, IRC scares me silly. I've had friends who used it and loved it, and have known people who've lived on it, but for some reason the commands and visual formatting just doesn't compute with me. Every time I try to go on I end up running away. I am such a coward -_-'

However, the lure of tons and tons of free anime and manga keep calling me back in.

see, that is obviously what i was there for as well, but i have no idea how you find what you are looking for in the first place.

not to mention there are a bunch of people who can see if you are doing something stupid. When i screwed around with bittorrent to get it working, nobody could see all the stupid things i did at first.

Yep, very scary. Especially when you read some of the 'group' rules and they seem very strict about not being allowed to make an ass of yourself. Funny story - when I first used IRC I couldn't figure out how to file transfer/get... I kept closing the window that was transfering by accident, and then wondering why I never got anything. Heh.

Actually, a good friend of mine who works for one of the fansubbing groups (can remember which at the moment, she switched recently) set me up on IRC and thus gave me links to a bunch of the really nifty anime groups... unfortunately, the computer that IRC is set up on does not have internet access at the moment so I can't look it up.

i mean like big volumes, not chapters or like pages or whatever they are really called. some website was hosting all of Orange Tangerines scanlations for a few days, so now i'm up in like the low 40s someplace. There were a few i didn't get to before he stopped hosting them, but i think i am almost the whole way caught up. thanks though *g*

I used to use IRC like a maniac back in the day... it was an easy way to chat with the ex and a bunch of our friends. I know I used the file transfer stuff then too, but I can't say I did a lot of it back then (dial up sux).
