WAAAAAAAH!

This...this is crap!

on the one hand, i'm not sure i believe in it, because if they rushed L to the hospital and Yagami-san reported his death back to the others, that means it was neither instaneous, which is not so Kira-esque, nor witnessed by Raito, in which case, he could have instructed Yagami-san to lie to buy himself some time now that he's sure about Raito. *clings desperately to loophole* and it didn't seem like it was Rem's plan to kill L, just Watari, because didn't they agree that L's sudden death would only put Misa under more suspicion?

but on the other hand AAAAAAAGH WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!!! bring back my psychotic monkey contortionist right this second! you are breaking up my slash dynamic and that is not on, NOT ON, do you hear me?!

and ps--my little slashy heart went pitty-pat when Raito dived to the floor and cradled L in his arms, even if it was for the purposed of leering at him in victory.

*hunkers down to wait miserably for 59*

those handcuffs are just begging for somebody to write or draw some crazy crazy bondage sex. because for serious, you could probably wrap that thing around either one of them a good two times.

so many possibilities...

i must have been pretty fried when i got to that part originally because i can't believe i didn't make any sort of comment in my journal about that business.

L is wiping his MOUTH for chrissake! and Raito is all rumpled and untucked! people should be drawing me bone-melting doujinshi right this freaking second. *claps hands imperiously*

I bet he told Yagami to go out and tell people that he's dead...

yeah, that's got to be it, it has to, because you'd seen like dozens of people die at this point, and L should certainly be no different.

I think killing Watari is Rem's idea alone. I went back and read the one before again. She seems to know that Watari has a lot of the data, so maybe she is hoping to disrupt L's dataflow enough to buy Misa some time, while leaving L free to catch Raito. it would follow then that L's near death experience might also be part of Rem's plan, although i'm not sure if shinigami can do that, for the same reason, to buy time.

i adore that L thinks the whole way back to Raito's potato chip bag trick. god i love that freakish monkey genius.

yes it's VERY irritating that the names changes, especially Raito's, but the mangaka apparently made very specific requests when they were licensing for english, and the scanlation group decided to respect that. and in japanese, raito and light would sound pretty much identical in direct address (but it took me days to realize that, while i was reading a fullmetal alchemist fic that referred to Ed and Winry as Edo and Winly. I am slow.).

did you crack up when the title of the second to last chapter was "THIS IS THE PLACE TO GET OFF"? if there was any doubt that L and Raito are getting it on...

:O

Okay, I personally suspect that just killing Watari is what killed Rem, because she thinks on this page that "if it comes to extending Misa's life span, then I will write all the names that I can think of into the notebook until that person dies outside in 40 seconds", by which I think she meant until Watari (who was outside the room everyone else was in) died. Ryuuzaki saw Rem leaving the room out of the corner of his eye and figured this meant his death was expected, so he faked, confirming to himself that Raito is Kira.

killing watari is definately what killed Rem. I'm just perplexed about what Rem's goal is. like, if you know killing anybody is going to kill you, why bother with L's henchman when L is sitting right there? Even if you can't kill L because that will throw major suspicion back onto Misa, how does killing watari help anybody ever?

the best i can figure out is that Rem is just trying to mess up L's operations for a little bit. or then again maybe if she is really smart, it's an attempt to warn L, but i hadn't thought of that before you mentioned that L noticed her leaving.

What happens to the death note when the Shinigami that belongs to it dies? maybe Rem knows something we don't about what will happen to Raito and his note now.

Although now Raito has two Notes, even if one is being held by the investigative team. So if he wanted to, he could drop one and have someone pick it up, although with him still being human, i don't know what that means.

I become more and more convinced that 'humans who use the death note go neither to heaven or to hell' means that when Raito dies, he'll become a Shinigami. it would be hot like crazy if he dropped the new note so that L picked it up (thinking it was the evidence one?) and ended up being the owner, and he would be stuck Reapering it up with Raito in the afterlife.

because honestly i can't believe that L would resist the temptation to try out this kira power thing for himself just to see how it works.

See, I think Rem figured she'd kill Watari, who probably knew quite a bit of the same information as L and might use it to thwart Raito or allow someone else to do so and/or endanger Misa even after L was killed, so she decided to let Raito deal with L instead. But Watari deleted all the information he had as he was dying from the heart attack, so that's one less person who could figure out that Misa is the second Kira. Although it being an attempt to warn L (while protecting Misa and therefore dying) is also an interesting idea...

If you remember from much earlier on, Rem had two Death Notes, also--her original one, and the one she got from the Shinigami that died protecting Misa. When the Shinigami who owns it dies, it becomes the property of anyone who picks it up, basically.

I'd be very interested to know what the rules are regarding human handling of a Death Note that no longer has a Shinigami attached to it, and whether you're right about humans becoming Shinigami (which would lend truth to Raito saying he'll become a god).

that's a good point about Watari deleting his stuff, although it would depend on whether Rem knew that or not. nobody else seems to until L mentions it, but Rem has been hanging around for days.

it's true about Rem just picking up the Note, but then again, she's already a Shinigami, she's supposed to have them. I think the rules about humans might be kind of different.

like, when a human picks up the Note, the Shinigami who dropped it shows up and has to hang around. if Raito passes the Note on the same way, will he have to show up?

I wonder if he will trade Misa Notes back now that he has a loose one, so that Ryuuk will be around again. The Shinigami are certainly useful pools of information, and it seems to me that if he has notes which are ownerless and won't give the new owner a chance to make the Eye deal with Shinigami, he'd probably rather have them floating around rather than one that allows for that possibility.

plus, i just liked Ryuuk.

Well I'm all hypothesized out, so I guess we'll just have to wait until the next chapter. What's the average waiting period, do you know?

it's hard to tell, and i've only been around for like two or three turnarounds.

maybe like a week? sometimes two come out together, so i guess it depends on how fast the scanlators want to know what's happening too. i suspect with this chapter, we might see one pretty quick for obvious reasons.
