mousapelli: (shiny! I want it!)

Nine episodes in, I'm already sold on Prince of Tennis. It's boys playing tennis, why is it so entertaining?! This is like freaking Hikaru no Go all over again (and why do i want to write fic where Akira becomes obsessed with PoT and Hikaru is all 'wtf is WRONG with you?')

But oh god, i love these boys already (although I'm having trouble with the names). I adore Inui's data fetish, and the captain's sexy Eiri-Yuki-glasses, and Momo-chan hugging the freshmen to freak them out, but more than any one of them, I love their first team practice session because they are so much fun altogether.

and also they are teaching me a surprising amount of vocabulary. I learned blue (Ao, like Yuuri's horse!) and red, and how you say first-, second-, and third-year (although really i could've maybe guessed that on my own).

Do they make Sesame Street in Japanese? i know this is really random, but I think I would enjoy it. I love learning new words, it's like cracking a secret code! because right after i learned blue, the end theme had 'aoi sorani' in it and i was all "BLUE SKYYYY!" and it scared the rat *geeks out*

I had a conversation about you with a complete stranger at work today. Now we might be doing the Anime Boston Masquerade next year.

I feel the need to share. Also, I know they make Sesame Street in Hebrew(Shalom Sesame!) and Spanish, but I don't know about Japanese.

haha, about me? I am everywhere!

I'm sure they do, isn't it the most translated television show of all time or something? If it's in Hebrew, i have to believe they do it in Japanese too. You'd think there's be some crazy ebay market for this sort of thing.

Yep! KKM led to pairing discussion, which led to ConZak, which led to "have you read...?" "Hell yeah!" which led to "Have you read her other stuff?" So yes.

The Hebrew one actually has some special episodes made for American Jewkids, so that might be why it exists. But yeah, it MUST be in Japanese somewhere. Or some equivalent.

so i just googled "sesame street japan", which i think the most geeky i have ever been, and got 'Big Bird in Japan', which is sort of hilarious on its own, and the sesame street manga, so i think it's safe to say it's over there. Manga? *snickers*

Mmmm, ConZak. and awwww, that's so flattering! *wriggles with glee* I am jealous of your ability to find KKM people in real life. Even at CTY, the haven for ridiculous dorkery, the only anime fen i can dig up are the kids.

Manga? Dude, now I have to Google it too.

I work at a fabric store. People walk in, say "We're looking for shoulder pads
and buckles." and my cosplay radar goes off. (Yami no Matsui) It's not so much an ability to find them as it is being located at ground central for geekery.

lol, that's hilarious! perhaps that is where i should be hanging out.

i really can't imagine going into anyplace and asking for shoulderpads and buckles with a straight face.

It's ridiculously addictive isn't it? And if you think the names are hard now, wait until they introduce the 50 billion other schools, each with their own team of 8 or 9 players...

And I agree with you on the languages: it's so cool to realize you know what something means.

it so is, it's bad news when you are spending nine hours a day teaching 13-year-olds Greek and then at 2 am you are like "TIME FOR PRINCE OF TENNIS".

well, i just watched the New Year's special, where they blathered on about each guy one at a time, so i think i have most of them down now. Except for Eiji, because that's not his last name, right? everybody else they call by their last name, so i got all jumbled when they introduced him as one thing and then the guys on the team call him something else.

From: [identity profile] biggersandwich.livejournal.com
Ahahaha. That wins at obsession. XD

And Eiji's last name is Kikumaru...I think some people (Tezuka mostly) call him that though... And the new year's special is insane. Random, useless information! And they all have the strangest hobbies don't they? *g*

From: [identity profile] mousapelli.livejournal.com
lol, YES, when i have everybody straight for real i will have to come back to mine this one for random fic info.

okay, Eiji's on your icon, so you must like him, is there some explanation for the perpetual bandage on his face? or did they just run out of distinguishing hairstyles?

XD

Well I like the text mostly. *g* But no, no explanation ever. Although I'd say his hair is actually fairly unique and it's other people I have difficulty telling apart. It's just a weird character design thing: I mean, it even turns up in the random chibi episodes (if you haven't gotten there: he is often a cat and they have absolutely nothing to do with the plot anyhow).

I BLAME YOU.

because now i must write doubles slash with those guys they met in the park who were all "ha, these guys don't know how to MOVE IN RHYTHM, we'll show you!" where they get all worked up playing street tennis (the fact that there even is such a thing as street tennis has made my love for the japanese like triple) and then some horizontal doubles ball handling must ensue.

so you can see clearly this is all your fault.

Fudomine! Fudomine is totally the most awesome team... well, after Rikkai. And Hyoutei. And Seigaku, of course, but Seigaku kicks so much ass their position as #1 shouldn't even be called in question. So. FUDOMINE IS TOTALLY THE FOURTH BEST SCHOOL. Have I overwhelemed you yet? XD

I must upload some of Fuji's songs!

oh god, i can't even get the guys' names right, much less the schools (what i need is somebody in RL to squeal about this with in a sort of constant manner), but this comment did make me laugh out loud, because i can blatantly alread see that that is how things are going to be.

Fuji has...songs? *is terrified* *and already has sinking suspicion that Fuji tops Tezuka disturbingly well*

From the musical(s), of course. Or possibly just a PoT special, since I don't know what the hell I'm downloading 90% of the time. Illegal mp3s make the world go 'round. :))

Fuji -- Black Rain (http://s39.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0FLQYJ9V792SD2C3WR1BFHB6KQ)
Fuji -- Ache of My Heart (http://s39.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2TSQKQYR0B2YL17W1K0MORUAJF)
Fuji, Ryoma, Tezuka, Oishi -- Freedom (http://s39.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1QHCGOO2E805X3L62HU83CWOSX)

LISTEN AND GIGGLE HYSTERICALLY.

ooh, thanks!

oh my goodness, these are terrifying. i can't believe that they took the gayest show on earth and, having no other way to make them gayer, made them a MUSICAL.

Fuji's prospective ownzzoring of Tezuka is now being augmented by the idea of him singing while doing it.

And it's LIVE-ACTION, too. The only thing better than a musical about tennis-playing middleschoolers are real Japanese adults singing and dancing on stage about tennis-playing middleschoolers.

I've never watched Prince of tennis (though now I want to) but I do know the joys of learning new words from anime. And J-Rock. And even the comics page, recently. :)

Although my Japanese friend at work has told me that I shouldn't learn anymore Japanese from gackt (J-Rock star, if you're not into that) because he talks funny.

Date: 2005-07-10 04:49 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mousapelli.livejournal.com
lol, yeah, i do know how gackt is (which has more to do with RPS on certain 30 kisses comms than anything else, i am sad to report), and that's probably sound advice.

i love Jrock, because their pop vocabulary is limited to a couple hundred words, just like ours is, so it's a great learning tool if you can learn by singing.

Indeed! I have one overseas album release by L'Arc en Ciel, and I love reading the romanji lyrics and trying to sound them out properly. (Although Hyde mumbles a little, so who knows if I'm getting it right?) My next step will be asking Akiko (my Japanese friend) to help me with the translations. Fun, fun!

I told her I'd learned "ki hon desu" from Gackt, which in one of my subtitled interviews was translated as "But of course." She just looked at me for a second and then said, "NOBODY says that!" After having watched several more inerviews, I can believe it. :)

i like L'Arc en Ciel, i have a bunch of their mp3s, but what i really like is Asian Kung-Fu Generation. I have Sol-Fa in full, and i've listened to it like a billion times by now.

Okay, my little crap beginner's dictionary didn't have 'ki hon' in it, even though i know i've heard it before (not like i expected it to, given your story). So what is it?

L'Arc's my FAAAAVORITE. O *heart* Yukihiro so much! And Ken! And Tetsu! Oh, heck, and Hyde, too! I want to invite them all to my house and make them cookies. Hee! I think I have one or two songs by Asian Kung-Fu Generation, too. *goes to check* Yeah, just one. "Rewrite." It's catchy. They guys' voice reminds me of Tetsu's, a little bit.

Akiko wasn't able to fully translate "ki hon des" for me. She said it's kind of like, "That's a given," but even that wasn't exactly right.
