I didn't mention this when it happened, but last week I backed into a car while picking up the girl I carpooled with.

Me: ".......I just fucked that person's car."
Carpool girl: "It's mine."

It didn't look like the worst damage ever, i didn't even break the mirror, and my insurance is already ridiculously high, so I just said I'd pay for it. I mean, it was flagrantly my fault.

She finally got it looked at: i did like $1100 worth of damage to it. I was thinking, 300-400 I could do, 500-700 would hurt but be managable, but there's absolutely no way I can come with $1100 at this moment. I just paid UVM $604 in 'activities fees' (don't even get me started) and then told a professor that I refused to buy the $150 book because i wanted to eat this semester.

I think what this really means is that I'm going to have to do the loans that I was suspecting would happen in the spring, right now instead.

Option B is to take the money i possess right now, purchase a machete (or put it on layaway), and begin hacking at the library steps.

but not right now, because now i have to go work at the library. Yes please pay me $7 an hour so I linger ceaselessly on the edge of being broke and must be miserable about it constantly.

Oh no. My little fenderbender at Walmart was $1100 too. They have to replace a panel and part of the bumper. It's an amazing ripoff. I'm so sorry. *Hugs*

waaaah. Yeah, they have to replace her panel...which is crap, cause it's just dented in and I bet they could pop it right back out, and I didn't scrape the paint or anything.

but you know, I think it's a sign that I need to just give up financially, because i finally talked to somebody in PA today that said I needed to take like every single praxis test for a teaching license in PA, and those are $100 a test, and I'll have to take at minimum two, but more likely three or more. it just never ends, it's like throwing sand at the ocean.

That's how mine was too, but it did have a crumple in it. I miss the days of big metal bumpers.

It won't last forever though. I know it seemed that way when Jeff was in graduate school and we were trying to live on $800 a month or less and food was the only thing we could cut. Things do get better. *Hugs*

i think the truth is that it's so high that I'm going to end up involving the insurance anyhow. I should just quit this grad school bullshit and learn to be a mechanic, they're certainly making more in labor that I ever freaking will.

i've been kind of lax about the actual recording of food, but aside from a few ellen-funded indiscretions this weekend, I haven't been too bad. I got some wheat bread that was like half the calories of the stuff i had before, so that helps, because i'm essentially packing a sandwich for lunch like everyday.

Also, hummus is randomly low in calories, so i've been eating that on honey wheat english muffins for breakfast. also, fruit popsicles are cheap fun.

You have my utmost sympathies (I'm a crap driver and have had multiple incidents with 'minor' plastic surgery-esque damage that turned out to be not so minor on teh bill). :( I scratched a six-inch long, non-denting scratch into someone's car once and it cost $500 to fix. Plastic surgery on automobiles is ridiculous.

Btw - you're at UVM. Do you know a Jessie E. or a Cory?

If they are in the classics program, then yes, I know both a Cory and a Jessie, although Jessie is through with her graduate work I believe, and Cory is still hanging around finishing his up.
