networking issue

so, we have the netgear router, and everything is fine internet-wise. Both ibooks are on the internet wirelessly, and the imac is on via an ethernet cable.

But I can't figure out how to set up a local network, even though i know it's possible. Does anybody know how to do this? It would be really easy if somebody had directions on how to create an appletalk zone, but I'll be goddamned if I can find any.

can somebody tell me how to set up a local network for two ibooks running OS X and an imac running 9?
