mousapelli: (kicking your ass)

I admit that I've become a bit of a J-pop and J-rock whore of late. and any fool who knows me knows that as soon as I get into something, I completely overload on it until the people around me stage an intervention.

But this is all good news for you, cause it means i have hot foreign pop to share.

If you've never tried foreign rock before, give it a shot! it's free. and some of it has a lot of English in it anyway. If Hendrix sang in Japanese, he'd've still been a genius, right?

As a general guide, the girl stuff tends to be more pop, and the boy stuff tends to be more rock/indie.

L'Arc~en~Ciel--Lost Heaven- Scared of the foreign music? Give this a shot, the entire chorus is in English. L'Arc is a J-pop legend, but AWAKE is the first album of theirs I've really enjoyed. The lead guy has a deeper, more American-sounding voice than a lot of other J-pop singers.

The Pillows--Crazy Sunshine- The Pillows are like if the Kinks were Japanese. Raw, garage-y kind of sound, but they're simple and straightforward and it works for them. If you've ever seen FLCL, they did all the music for that.

Asian Kung-Fu Generation--REWRITE- Oh man, what is there to say about this song? The 4th FMA theme, this was the song, and then the album, that sold me on J-rock for good. Simple, driving guitar, sexful lead singer who hovers on that edge between power and screaming. Man, this song just fucking ROCKS, take my word for it.

Jougen no Tsuki (Crescent Moon)--SAYAKA- Girly pop, but something about Japanese pop is just more interesting than American pop. It just sounds a little different, fresher. This song is mellow and gorgeous, it doesn't rock out quite as much as other girls I could name, but Sayaka's voice is rich and inviting, and she ain't hard on the eyes either. I had a wicked hard time finding this song, but so worth it.

Minami Kuribayashi--Tsubasa no Pleasure Line- Still girly, but much more with the rocking out. The sound can be a little more girlish than Sayaka, but it's an affectation and it fades when the singer gets into it. I cannot resist from chair dancing to this song. If you are of the girl-pop at all, get this song. *loves*

Atobe Keigo--Kukou no Tsubasa- Atobe Keigo's seiyuu (voice actor) is the sex. So. Much. Sex. This is more pop than rock, and a character song, but I do not care because the hotness of the voice overrides the dweebiness like crazy. Seriously, if you are going to indulge in one character song fetish, go for Atobe.

Takui--RE-SET- straight-forward indie rock. Love it. Takui sounds a bit like Asian Kung-Fu Generation, only a little more polished, maybe? Less garagey. I had a hard time finding this one too, which is odd, cause everybody seems to like Takui so much.

Also, since I just uploaded them yesterday for [livejournal.com profile] darkeyedwolf, have two Origa songs: Inner Universe and Rise, both of which are Ghost in the Shell themes. Haunting and gorgeous, these songs are a lot better than the show itself, in my opinion.

Recommend me something good in return?

Yay pretty music! Recs from me may not have much information behind 'em (since I really don't know much about music other than that I like it XD!) but if they sound good to you, I'll upload.

TWO-MIX in general, but particularly "I Don't Wanna Cry" and "Naked Dance" (International version for Naked Dance is also v. good) are really fun. They're techno-y and exciting on lots of levels, and their English is really rather funny. It's so fast-paced that you can't understand most of it, but if you get a lyrics book in front of you, it's funny beyond words.

The Detective Conan opening "Koi wa Thrill! Shock! Suspense!" is fun to dance to, also, but I think it's guilty of being typical J-pop. Even so, it's one of my favorites even after losing my copy of the track for three years. XD

TaTu's "Show Me Love" and "Malchick Gay" are two good ones; "Show Me Love" in English excites me, and Malchick Gay is mad entertaining whether it's in Russian or English. I really can't describe either one, though. Simply that they're good. xD

I fail at recs! T_T;

reposted in the right spot, this time. >_____>

Malchick is the most hilarious song ever, she's sitting there going "handsome, tender, soft" and I wonder if she wants a boyfriend or a steak. And then "I want you to hold me like your boyfriend does" -- HOW MANY TIMES HAVE I WISHED THAT I COULD BE A MARY SUE WHO GETS HELD BY CERTAIN HOT CHARACTERS THAT ARE TOTALLY GAY? Oh, Tatu. ♥ ♥ ♥
From: [identity profile] mousapelli.livejournal.com
disturbingly, i have an icon that is perfect for this.
From: [identity profile] megami-maxwell.livejournal.com
Dude, how completely, like, every single chick in anime is that song? I mean, we've got Yuiko and Shinonome-sensei, and then Ayaka-chan from Gravi, and Tsubaki-hime from YamiMatsu... Though that line kind of bothers me, since it sound kind of like "I want you to hold me like your boyfriend holds me"? But I could just be a loser hearing it that way. XD Tatu is the beauty of my ever either way. ♥ Just no arguing that one. Haha x3

I'd like to give TWO-MIX and the Conan opening a shot, if you have a moment to put them up.

Haha, i don't mind 'typical' j-pop, i kind of dig it. And anime themes are totally where half my stuff comes from anyway (Dude, Chrono Crusade? Of the glorious and UTTER HOT).

I actually have a bunch of TaTu on my ibook already, ironically. Those silly russian lesbians.

They're mad hot silly Russian lesbians.

I've got over a hundred other TWO-MIX songs if you'd like them, too, and I'll post the other bits up in a sec once I figure out how to do it again. XD Ye'll be getting a bonus in there, because I'm a whore like that, and TWO-MIX is just so happy for me that it makes me die. (Providing YSI will upload it, o' course!)

BAM link!

Andand. So, like, "list" of sorts:

Detective Conan - Koi wa Thrill Shock Suspense
TWO-MIX - I Don't Wanna Cry
TWO-MIX - Living Daylights (I'm really partial to this song, so I had to put it in, and my Seko requested it XD!)
TWO-MIX - Naked Dance: English
TWO-MIX - Truth: English (The Conan theme ♥ Only the full version, because it's sexier, and in English.)

Huzzah! thanks so very much! I like the Conan theme a lot, and i'm listening to TWO-MIX right now.

It doesn't take much to please me really *g*

I'd say anything by Gackt, but his latest album, DIABOLOS, in particular if you're looking for rock. If you need any links, ask me!

If you've got a link handy, I'd love it.

This is the Gackt-Hyde ballad mentioned below, Orenji no Taiyou.

Note: This is some of his harder stuff; but, as can be seen from Orenji, he can really do the ballads too.

Now, if you'd be so kind as to direct me to links to Laruku's new album if you have any? =D I've got all their past albums, but haven't managed to find AWAKE yet. Thanks!

HUZZAH! you are totally my hero!

I got AWAKE from a mininova torrent (http://www.mininova.org/tor/85879), but if you aren't all about the torrenting or anything, I could upload it for you.

aw, this duet is all sweet and stuff *crushes*

Eh thanks so much for the link! Yeap I definitely do torrents, on it now. Thanks again~

I'm afraid I have no idea where to find torrents/sites for Gackt downloads - I dled all his songs from kazaa..

It makes me so sad that Laruku have fallen so far to be called "j-pop" *sniff* they used to be...so much more. *sniffle* I used to buy every album they put out, but the last one I bought was years ago now.
*dls the song anyways*
Is Takui still wearing that godawful uber-gay purple ensemble?

Have you heard hide-sama? hide was one of the greatest guitiarists/musicians ever, and not just amongst the japanese. Also, I worship the man. Can supply you with hide goodness if necessary, but it's all the iTunes format.

Next, can I recommend you pick up some Dir en grey? :D :D Seriously, if you're going to listen to japanese rock, you NEED to get yourself some hide and some Dir en grey. Their latest single is mostly english even...Plus -- in a totally self-gushy moment, their guitarist wore a t-shirt that has MY NAME ON IT. I've decided to attribute this to my cleavage. Obviously he remembers it, and loves it muchly. Right? Right? (Why is no one agreeing with me? MEH!)
can also supply Dir en grey, except it's also iTunes format.

well, I didn't mean j-pop in a bad way...but they have done a bunch of Fullmetal Alchemist themes, so heh, maybe they are slightly less badass than they used to be. (Fate? rocks me hardcore)

I understand that Takui is not so visual kei these days, and that his new album is better for it, but I haven't been able to find anything else by him.

Is Hide the same guy as Hyde? *is clueless* I don't have anything by either of them, so if you're offering, I'd love to hear :) Dir en Grey, too. No worries about the itunes format, I've got an ibook.

yay! *smooshes you*

Hide is v. much not HYDE. xD I actually don't know much about Hide except that I wanted to eat his pink hair and he passed on (I believe? I could be wrong ;;; ) and he was a guitar god. HYDE, however, is of L'Arc, had a really cute/sexy solo carreer (read: I like his Roentgen album better than most L'Arc things XD;; ) and is just... aah, so cute. I've got some HYDE stuff if you'd like it, but YSI is a whore beyond words and hates me quite a bit. >_>; HYDE did the shiny Orenji no Taiyou duet with Gackt and was in Moonchild with him. ♥

ah, that explains the confusion. I'm amused by Hyde doing a duet with Gackt and further boggling my mind about who is in which band and doing what.

I'd love to hear whatever you're offering. Megaupload usually works pretty well for me, or you can just email me stuff at mousapelli at gmail dot com.

I'd ofer to get on AIM and just do file-transfer, but mine virtually never works *kicks it* If you're on later tonight, I probably will be as well (i'm Mousapelli there too), if you have a mac as well, sometimes it does work.

Yeah seconded! Hide was actually a guitarist from X Japan, THE definitive, legendary Jrock band from around the late '80s till the mid '90s, when they disbanded. Then after a few years, Hide died of an apparent overdose.

Anyway, X Japan's another legendary band; gotta hear them!

He did NOT die of an overdose!

He died from an ACCIDENT. It had nothing to do with drugs.

*weeps*

yes. hide-sama (please note the lower-case 'h'!!!)
passed away on May 2, 1998 due to an unfortunate incident with a towel on his bathroom doorknob. T_________T
He was a kinky bastard. God how I love him still.
Until September 2005 there was a museum for hide-sama
in Yokosuka, but then they closed it. *more weeping*
I personally have about 16 different hide UFO dolls, from the UFO catcher machines at the museum.

a very very abbreviated bio...
hide started out as guitarist in the band Yokosuka Saver Tiger in 1982, and moved on to X which became one of the biggest and most influential japanese rock bands ever.
Even Koizumi made sure to mention how much he loves hide-sama.

I'm totally going to cry now. No. Hyde is the vocalist from Laruku, hide-sama is a GOD, and was the guitarist for X (later known as X Japan) as well as having a solo career as hide with Spread Beaver. I worship the man. you should too! I have photos of myself standing in front of the hide museum even. *nodnodnod* I introduced myself to the woman responsible for designing his clothes even (*tears up*)

I can send you some iTunes format Dir en grey & also hide songs if you have a gmail address? or an email that can take mp3s? :D

my gmail is kagyakusha at gmail dot com

Well, I have a bunch of Dir en Grey songs now, thanks to mininova torrents, but if you wanted to send along some hide songs, you surely could. New music is always to the good.

mousapelli at gmail dot com should work just fine.
