So now that stuff is all moved over to The Rat Box, I can actually start updating the site again. But this means posting Christmas in Hyoutei, which is in parts, and I hate trying to figure out what the best way to post chaptered things is on the site, esp when the parts are smallish.

Sometimes I just link my LJ, but I don't love that, cause if LJ crashes ever, I won't have a backup on my website. I've also linked ff.net for things that have lots of parts, like the KKM 20 themes, but i don't love that either, cause ff.net.

what do you people do?

[Poll #650102]

also, if you haven't had your dose of PoTWTF this morning, you can see me writing to [livejournal.com profile] prillalar that if anybody's tennis can impregnate somebody, it's Fuji's.

BAH.

That's what I get for trying to put code in a text box.

You could just break sections with a horizontal rule, was what I was saying, except that didn't fit so I said <hr>. Which went vanishy in the box because hi, can't go putting a rule in the middle of a single line of text.

In other news, my eyeballs are SURE the title of this post is multi-PARTNERS. Which makes the poll options ...odd.

I make all of my partners share with bold breaks! I make them part their own pages! I keep them in, um, linked houses?! Or something.

lol, i do that all the time, putting code into little text-only places *breaks internet*

I think in this case that may be okay, since it's essentially a continuous story, but for theme things it seems questionable, cause you have to keep changing the pairings and the rating and whatnot.

maybe I should just stop writing so freaking much.

It depends on the length, really. For small pieces -- I'd guess something smaller than 1000 words or so -- I'd put them together into a single page. For longer chapters, I'd probably link each one separately on an index page. But then, I don't do much multipart stuff, so take all of this with as much salt as required.

Linking back from the website to a different archive seems odd to me -- it seems likely to sort of...diffuse, I suppose. To lead away from reading at the website.

yeah, some of these are only like 500 words, and it's not that i don't have other things that are smaller and their own page, but I don't like it. smacks of inefficiency.

It's rare that I do multi-parters as well, and it's only for challenges that I can recall.

It is diffuse, and I don't enjoy it. When I put things on the site, I want them to BE on the site, but then there's stuff like my 24-hour ficathon which will never ever look good that way. *throws hands in air*

i love your Gwendal icons. I need to make myself one of him knitting grumpily.

*nod* I know what you mean about the inefficiency problem. I stopped putting most of my short fic on my site after a while, not only because there were so many pieces but also because it just never looks right, you know? 500 words looks okay in a LJ post, but somehow sort of forlorn and incomplete as a webpage.

I keep meaning to put text on the writing one, and keep not getting around to it. It serves so many purposes as it is. And for text, there's always this one. Bless his dear heart, the poor boy. ^^

yeah, i put the little ones up, but they do look stupid. things like comment fic, but them in particular i'm afraid that if i don't make a point of putting EVERYTHING in one place, i'll lose some of them.

i have a base of him and Greta that I think i'm going to caption "don't grow up like your daddies; i'll be the only normal one left".

Separating them out by part (no matter where you link to) seems like a good idea to me because sometimes I decide something's too long to read if I'm busy, whereas if it has short parts, I get hooked and finish it.

haha, that is true. In particular it's easier to separate them if different ratings and pairings are involved in a bunch of different parts, which is the case here. Sort of. Not really. stupid internet.

the sekrit crocheting for you is coming along nicely! I've been crocheting during staff meetings while my mentor teacher knits socks.

Cool! I need to learn to crochet something that isn't a coaster or big square. I think I need to take a class.

Hey sweetie--where are you--Montpelier? Cause I left a message on your phone about this--but can I borrow your crutches for a friend? Nada sprained her ankle this morning, poor boo. Are they in your closet?

yeah, i'm at school, the kids are taking midterms.

The crutches are in my closet, next to the crate with the shoes in it, i think. but you probably can't miss them.

Rock, thanks. :)

Do you happen to remember what height range they were for? Or were they the adjustable kind?

Date: 2006-01-11 06:45 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mousapelli.livejournal.com
five foot five, as that's what i am. I don't think they're adjustable much, but I don't really remember.

K, we'll have to see. Nada's about 5 inches taller--I might have to see if Beth still has hers lying around. Is she back from Jersey yet, do you know?

Depends on the size. If the parts are small, put them all together. If they're big, separate them out.

Which is what I would do if I wrote multipart stuff.
