Aim for the Sky!
Feb. 21st, 2006 10:49 pmAttention fellow Aim for the Sky! ficcers (e.g.
prillalar):
So Marks and I were discussing what who we got and who we need. Right now we have Sato (goal), Tachiki (Defenseman), Asakawa (midfielder), Misaki (attackman), Tsukada (?), the streaker Kazuhiro (?), and the freshman. And also a manager. I had a site that had a good description of what each position needs characteristic-wise, which of course i can't relocate now, but this one is pretty good and has a glossary.
did you have a position for Tsukada? I was thinking that he'd be a mid-fielder, because they're responsible for seeing the whole game and shifting back and forth over the mid-line to keep their numbers legal, and none of the other boys seem exactly up to the task in the beginning. But if you had him pegged as something else, for sure! You are the boss.
I was thinking Kazuhiro would be an attackman, since they "use speed and agility to elude defenders" and, you know, streaker. Of further note is the fact that Kazuhiro is a first name, while everybody else's name is a last name (right?), I guess I should come up with a last name for him, haha.
Marks suggests "Harada" as a name for the freshman, it sounds kind of cute and generic to me and I like it. I have no plans for him, but i'm sure he thinks he'd make a killer defender. You can do whatever with him.
I have nothing, neither position nor name for the Canadian. He likes to check people; defender? anything you like, really.
so we have two blank spots to make a team of ten yet. I was thinking, I said twins were hot earlier, but I was just saying to marks that what would be really hilarious was if there was just one twin, and they didn't even know he was a twin at first, till they confused him with his sibling at a match or something, AND THEN in the very end it would turn out that the twins were switching off sport clubs with each other, which suddenly explains his slight split-personality. In the spirit of the shounen sport love, maybe it should all come out when one twin refuses to stop doing lacrosse anymore, and they have a big fight in the locker room or something. Is that way way too weird?
so we are still short a guy then. Who do you want? is there stuff you've been thinking about? guys you want? Should we have a data guy? we don't want to dictate or anything, we want to know what you've got over there!
and maybe some first names :) lol, and since they are japanese, blood types, cause that's clearly SO RELEVANT.

Gavin GunholdMartin Ouellette. I figure that they assume he knows how to play lacrosse since he's Canadian, but he really has no idea. He's probably hearty and bluff and beloved by girls. Defense is good.Tsukada can be a midfielder -- that's a good idea. And I figure that Tachiki can play any position. Maybe Tsukada switches him around from game to game. Oh, and we should decide which school Tachiki transferred from. How about good old Kakinoki? They can be famed for their lacrosse team.
I love the twins idea! Totally go with that. And Harada is very cute. He's the one who sucks up to Tsukada, right? And gets in everyone's faces? And phones up everyone every morning to make sure they get up for practice?
I haven't had any specific thoughts about the extra guys so far. Hmm, how about a guy who's been kicked out of three or four clubs for making trouble? Tsukada takes him because he needs players.
Or there could be a guy who's completely obsessed with another sport, one that they don't play at Seigaku. Soccer? I don't remember seeing a soccer team there.
Or there could be a guy who wants to be in the shogi club because he's really good at it, but his dad makes him do a sports club and he's bitter about it and always working on shogi problems in the club room.
Any of those sound good? I could go on, if necessary. :)
And who should be the vice-captain? (Since it's a team sport, they'll likely use "captain", not "buchou".) Maybe Sato?
Natsumi-chan is sweet and helpful. She seems meek, but she's got an inner core of strength. She likes Misaki. She makes snacks that taste bad, but not on purpose. She's kind of a klutz.
Clearly, we need trading cards to keep this straight.
I hope this means you are writing a Sato/Asakawa epic!

Date: 2006-02-22 06:27 am (UTC)yes omg absolutely. "Our first game! I'm so excited! Aren't you excited?! Let's go let's go!" "OMG PUT PANTS ON." I just got myself a bigass list of Japanese surnames, and I like Shiyouji Kazuhiro, if that isn't too much of a mouthful.
I like your idea about switching Tachiki around, that way we can't get a grip on what his position used to be, nor begin to figure out what his Dark Past Omg is. Kakinoki sounds good to me. They should have an awful tennis team though, so that everytime he meets one of the original three, they keep being like "oh, i think we beat them once..." "YES I KNOW, OKAY."
Also, Harada telephoning everyone is kind of the funniest thing that I've ever heard. Speaking of mornings, I'm probably going to take a stab at the Asakawa gets roughed up by upperclassmen fic, which probably happens earlyish in team formation, so do we have a shot at who the stragglers are? we could just have them joining in the order we've added them, i suppose.
Oh man, those are all crazy options for the last guy. I like the obsessed with the wrong sport guy, but i don't want him to get conflated with the hockey player. So maybe we could merge him with the dorky guy? so somebody who was doing something utterly dweeby, like curling (Fuji does it, so there's a club there), and then his dad forces him to join the lacrosse club instead. We just have to convince him that clearing a path as an attackman for the scorer is just like brooming in front of the stone thing. or, you know, whatever.
I do also like the 'kicked out of a couple other clubs' guy idea. Not like we need an extra guy, but can't hurt to have a sub around, right? He's probably ineligible for sports half the time for causing trouble during school anyway.
i love the canadian. Nobody can understand at first why the other clubs don't want this big strong, foreigner, but it soon becomes apparent that not so much with the fitting in "DEAR GOD STOP CHECKING PEOPLE". He could have, like, stick rage. or something. So he's too meek for non-stick sports, like soccer, but way too scary otherwise.
that's cool about the captain/buchou distinction. Maybe they can call Tsukada buchou when they want to nettle him, because on top of being the wrong sport, it's also accusing him of not being a team player. Sato's a good choice for Vice Captain, although in terms of knowledge it should be Tachiki I suppose, but I can't really come up with a way for him to want it at all. Sato's solid, he can take it.
I was totally about to add earlier that Natsumi's cookies are terrifying, and she likes to make them surprise batches during home ec for afternoon classes. Hive mind, man.
I think the twin is (well, they would both be, and isn't that convenient, haha, score japan) Kichida. i picked something super high on the common surname list, so there would probably be a handful of people with that last name anyway, and it wouldn't be weird that nobody noticed if they were in different classes.

Date: 2006-02-22 05:09 pm (UTC)Actually, they were favoured to meet Seikagu in the city finals, but Fudoumine beat them down. So now they have kind of a loser-ish flavour.
We just have to convince him that clearing a path as an attackman for the scorer is just like brooming in front of the stone thing. or, you know, whatever.
It's call *sweeping*. *g* Probably everybody thinks that poor Marty is a good curler too. And I'm flashing on Hice Cool now. "Kalingu! Kalingu! Kalingu!"
All the names you picked are great. My method, when I need random names, is to grab ones from other anime.
Re captain/buchou, the only times I've seen the club leaders of sports clubs called buchou is in tennis and track. Otherwise, it's captain. (And fuku-captain.) Actually, in Ace wo Nerae, the tennis club leaders are also called captain.
Whee! This is fun. :) Must plan more fic.

Date: 2006-02-23 03:57 am (UTC)He's all subversive and shit. Probably in the end, like next year, the older one gives in and admits that he liked lacrosse too, but not in the hardcore, asakawa-esque way that the younger one developed. and it won't happen until way after this season is over.
What should their other sport be? Er, and you know, given names. heh.

Date: 2006-02-22 12:15 pm (UTC)I like Natsumi-chan already. Hee. I'm voting for the shogi guy because he can come up with awesome, unexpected plays in lacrosse by thinking of it as a big shogi board or something. And everyone will boggle at his strategizing skills, which he only offers up when he feels like it.

they should totally call him "silver general" or something, and then they can upgrade him later, or 'promote' him, as actually happens in the game.
