More (better) rat pictures
Feb. 27th, 2006 02:06 pmI can tell Ohtori and Jiroh apart with reasonable accuracy at this point, but I darkened up Ohtori's natural ear splotch with a sharpie so i would be sure right away. I don't want to train them to the wrong names!
Atobe is still the only one who will come down the ramp to hang out with me, he's a total attention whore. Last night he spent a good five minutes trying to wake up Jiroh with Ohtori, and then in the end gave up and used Jiroh to lean against so he could groom his crotch. I swear that I named them before i started watching them, really!
Additionally, the rat wrestling is the funniest thing i have ever seen. You can totally hear them saying "I WON'T LOSE TO YOU!" at each other. Except for Ohtori, who totally got pwned by Shishido last night about 4 times in a row, and now just rolls over and takes it.

Date: 2006-02-27 09:11 pm (UTC)Well, it isn't 100% or anything, but basically you just toss a couple poos in the litter thinger, and make sure that the litter thinger has a kind of bedding that feels very different than the other kind, so the rats can tell the difference. If they are already using a certain corner, that's helpful, you just put the thing there. And when you have them out, you have a litter thing out too and watch carefully. If you catch the rat in the act, you can dump him right in the thing.
They get the idea pretty fast if you have treats on hand and make a big fuss when they shuffle into the pan by themselves.

Date: 2006-02-27 10:21 pm (UTC)My rats *love* ramen. The only thing they like more is frosting, but I risk getting my fingers bitten off giving it to them. They go crazy for it.
