hearts in firefox?
Feb. 27th, 2006 09:20 pmIs there anybody else who can't see the hearts and other HTML symbols with their firefox? Mine is all updated and everything, but all I see below are a bunch of vertical lines:
♥ ♥ ♥
I have the latest version and everything! is it just a mac problem? I want to seeeee!
Why is my googlefu so freaking weak lately?

2. Check that you have either the Symbol font installed.
Are you using a Mac or Windows PC?

Yeah, i have Apple Symbol, which is the 10.4 equivalent of Symbol and works the same. The old computer just had regular Symbol, and it wouldn't display them there either.
Your mac displays them? I think this is all a plan to thwart me.

Date: 2006-02-28 03:06 am (UTC)A-ha! So maybe the problem isn't with your computer, but your LJ account not being able to display the symbols.
Check "Manage -> Info". Near the bottom of the page is a section called "Encoding Options". It's only supposed to be useful for old LJ entries, but you never know...
And I don't have a Mac. I use Linux. (Which explains my "Why don't you try this?" system of fixing things.) Anyway, us alternative OS people need to stick together.

Date: 2006-02-28 03:43 am (UTC)I'm almost out of ideas. The only thought I've got left is that maybe you can get around it by changing your default fonts for Firefox.

Date: 2006-02-28 04:47 am (UTC)Toshiba running Windows XP and Firefox; I see three picture hearts, but when I leave lessthan3 in a comment, the lessthan symbol shows up and all the text after it gets cut off.
