Japanese speakers/readers: it's 「ここまでする」、but 「まだです」?

What's the difference? is it because one is formal? Is there a rule? or is it just idiomatic?

more importantly, which one is Ryoma's "Not yet, moron", because I've changed the name of that Shoon fic twice now.

also, while we're on the topic of language, my mother has somehow managed to change the VCR to French. Apparently rewind is "REBOBINAGE."

Ummm...I think made means "until" and mata means "again" or "still".

XD Ryoma's "Not yet, moron" is まだ - that means "still", so if you say 「まだまだだね」like he does, you're saying/implying "you still have a looong ways to go" or "you're still not at my level" - something like that. In the context he says it, anyway. ;)

まで is "as far as, until" - so ここまでする is literally "to do it as far as here". A common expression is 「そこまで」which basically means "Stop!"; literally, "that far!" (and no farther. :D)

no, the difference is between "mada" and "made". My book is using both, and I don't understand why.

oh, so they aren't the same word at all, they just sound sort of alike and do almost but not quite the same thing.

and the "i haven't done it yet" is considered a version of "still." Okay, I think i see.

Oh yes! Sorry! まだ　+ affirmative verb form = still do, まだ + negative verb form = haven't done yet. :)

ahh, okay, that's useful.

It's just so frustrating! Because I feel like i get it, and then ten seconds later something else happens and i am like "WAIT. WHAT."

I also only have the verbs する, ある, and なる, so everything kind of all sounds a like.

not really. mada is still, as in "i am still doing the laundry" and mata means again, as in "the stains didn't come out so i am doing the laundry again."

また and まだ are very different actually--また means "again" and まだ means "still/yet" (depending on whether the verb is positive or negative)

またXXする - Do XX again.
まだXXしている - Still doing XX.
まだXXしていない - Not doing XX yet.

And you already got it answered, but まで means "until/as far as/up to". ここまでする = to do (something) up to here
