Dwarf Lovin'!
Dec. 22nd, 2003 01:37 amso...after watching all three LotR's in a row, I'd been ragging on two of my friends at school about the high volume of questionable exchanges between Legolas and Gimli, with the understanding that I'm blatantly misreading it because it's funny.
When I got home, I dug out my old beat copy of RotK to read the Appendices, and lo and behold, the end of App A says this:
"Legolas followed at last the desires of his heart and sailed over Sea.
'Here follows one of the last notes in the red book.'
We have heard tell that Legolas took Gimli Gloin's son with him because of their great friendship, greater than any that has been between Elf and Dwarf. If this is true, then it is strange indeed: that a Dwarf should be willing to leave Middle-Earth for any love, or that the Eldar should receive him, or that the Lords of the West should permit it."
OMFG, it's CANON! Right there in black and white! I nearly died laughing as I sent an email off to my slash-skeptical friends.

so emotionally drained right now...

Date: 2003-12-23 04:32 am (UTC)I think I'm seeing it again tomorrow with my brothers.
PS-L&O is on, but the 'visually impaired' narrator got turned on somehow, and we can't figure out how to turn it off, so every couple of seconds some random guy goes "they enter Ben's office" or "Ben shakes his head sadly".

Date: 2003-12-23 04:49 am (UTC)yeah, the hobbit orgy was just too much even for my firmly-not-into-fic-and-slash sensibilities. I resisted the urge to cackle.
I think I'm going to watch the Two Towers tonight, for lack of anything better to do.

It's understandable that there's no Legolas/Gimli chemistry in the movies, though, as the actors can't really interact much. Too bad 'cause while the Orli/Viggo chemistry was strangely intense it means yet another character is after the King. Hasn't he got enough love interests to deal with?
Plus Legolas and Gimli were sweet in the book.
