Hal, you will feel my wordpress pain. I would really like to start using it so that my website will stop sucking, but while my webhost has MySQL, it is evidently some version lower/other than 4.0. When I go to run the install, it says just that I need MySQL 4.0, but doesn't tell me anything helpful, like what it is that I DO have.
I emailed the guy who I buy my space from, but haven't heard back from him at all. When I dig around in my admin panel, nowhere will it tell me what I actually have.
I'm just really frustrated. Any idea how to figure out exactly what I do have/have a suggestion about something similiar to wordpress I might be able to use? At this point I would not care what it took so long as I ended up with an indexable website that didn't make me want to weep.
I've always had the same host. A guy I went to college with ran his own business and so had his own server, so he defrayed costs by selling a couple of us hosting. Like I said, I emailed him, but didn't get a response. I guess I'll try again and see what's up, and hopefully get some kind of response. I'm not sure what he'll say one way or another.
I renew in January, so I guess I ought to shop around a little. Sigh.

Date: 2008-10-13 09:49 pm (UTC)* Make a text file with this content:
* Name it something like info.php and upload it.
* View the file to get lots of confusing info about the server, some of which should be about MySQL.
I can take a look at the info if you like and see what to suggest.

Date: 2008-10-13 10:02 pm (UTC)Seems like it's MySQL 3.23.58 and PHP 4.3.11.
So...now what? Is that old enough to be a huge problem?

In other news, I can't find my Kabuto DVDs or my Agito DVDs and so I am *re-downloading* everything.

And you should be able to upgrade to the latest version once you have a better server setup. You couldn't tag in the older version, though.
