We got confirmation from all three of our hotels, and i had to hand over some money to one of them, so...looks like jackoweskla and I are going to Japan in December. Yay?

Ha, it's not that I'm not ecstatic, but I do have to go into work tomorrow and beg for them to let me not show up when I am, you know, making it worldwide and such, and I'm scared they'll just be like "no, don't be stupid" and also the flight we need seems to be maybe sort of sold out (or maybe not?) depending on where we look.

I'll be honest, when I was sort of pitching this idea just after the "kisumai gets concerts" announcement, it was all, well if they miraculously hit some date i maybe can do it and if maybe somebody else can go, and it was all this vague pipedream. And then "some shows" became "a tour" and then I figured other people's parents would say no, and everybody said yes and...now I kind of...have to...say yes too.

Damn. I kind of thought everybody else would tell me this was stupid and to be sensible. THIS IS TOO MUCH DRAMA. Now I'm going to go to bed and completely fail to sleep while I think about this uselessly much longer. and also about how much I really, really don't want to ask my principal for things. the irony of the situation is that i will be begging them not to pay me.

Depends on where in Japan you'll be. The trick is finding places really near the station, because being far away makes everything difficult. And also that they have internet, because that's the best way to check the train schedules and things.

In Yokohama i've stayed at the Shin Yokohama Prince hotel, which is really nice and near the station, but consequently expensive. Still, for a few nights it might be worth the money to have your own bath and things.

When I'm in Tokyo I always stay at the Ryokan Kangetsu, which friends introduced me to. It's in Chidori Cho which is out a bit from Tokyo, but it's small and quiet and has a rooftop onsen and wifi and laundry, and I love it there.

We're trying a new place in Kyoto called Ikoi no Ie (http://www.ikoi-no-ie.com/) that looks cool. Last year we stayed at the Hotel Nihonkan, and that was nice too. There's a ton of places really near Kyoto Station, which is where you want to be, because aside from being near the station, there's a huge underground shopping center under it, and the buses to the temples and things leave from the station too.

nah, we'll deal with it when we're there. Esp since we'll see you at the beginning of our trip, so if we deal in yen it'll probably mean either of us has to take out/exchange more money and then we won't have any american/dollar exchange rate woes on top of the yen/whatever else exchange rate woes.

okay, i DID see that, i remember cracking up at it because everybody's yukata is normal EXCEPT HASSHI/TOTTSU. WHAT THE HELL. and also because Hasshi has his hands on three out of four senpai at once, and is super smug about it. And tottsu's expression is so "can you believe this shit right here."

because I teach we don't have vacation days, since all summer is our vacation. We have sick days and a couple personal days, and they do accumulate forever, but I used my personal days to go to Fanime last year. Cool shit needs to stop happening during the school year.

Wow, we educator types get 10 vacation days, 10 sick, and 3 personal per school year over here. But I agree with you, cool shit needs to not happen during the school year, or at least needs to conveniently time itself with my breaks.
