mousapelli: (deep thoughts)

I just finished making this Blueberry Lemon Cake, and it smells so good. But it's for dinner so I can't have any for hours D:

Other than that, I haven't done much for the last two days, except sign up for the JLPT N3 and stay up all night Saturday night finishing The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, and last night I watched Bandage which made me cry. I'm not even sure why, actually, because it wasn't sad. I can only assume that it was some combination of how much Jin just plays himself in it, and still being a little sad about KAT-TUN, and watching Jin do something he really loves. the very last scene put me over the edge, idek. But on an artsy note, the use of music and silence in that movie made my breath catch more than once, and I think I'd like to watch it a few more times.

I also think i'd like to understand what they're talking about more than half the time. I'm still frustrated over my inability to improve my Japanese listening no matter what I do, but there's nothing I can do except for watch/listen to as much stuff as possible and hope that it improves enough to make passing the N3 feasible, now that I have to pass all the sections. Grrrr.

And now I'm watching Cold Case while I wait for Law & Order, and you know, a lot of these are just too much for me. I end up turning them off halfway through about half the time, and of the ones I make it the whole way through, half again usually end up with me bawling. I think it's the futility of the episodes, since their cases are from so long ago, and usually what they find out is so sad or infuriating, and then somebody who's like 80-yrs-old gets arrested for something they did forty years ago. TOO MUCH.

Did your syrup thicken for the glaze? Mine stayed mostly watery. Sigh.

nope, not really. I put in more sugar and everything, but I think honestly that's just way too much lemon juice to make glaze with that amount of sugar. I let mine cool for about five minutes before I poured it over to see if it would thicken up, but it didn't help that much.

*nod*

Next time I might skip the glaze altogether and maybe just dust it with some powdered sugar.

That's a good idea. I might half the blueberries next time, that was a lot, and I'm more into the lemon than the blueberries.

I also kind of want to make orangey bread now, since I have all the stuff like the yogurt and the eggs and whatnot. Have you done anything good with oranges lately?

This orange ricotta pound cake (http://newfinmysoup.blogspot.com/2010/02/ricotta-orange-pound-cake-with.html) was good, and so was this vanilla yogurt cake with orange glaze (http://allthatsplatters.blogspot.com/2009/10/vanilla-yogurt-cake-with-orange-glaze.html), but my favoritest is this orange cranberry loaf (http://musesfool.livejournal.com/1804971.html?thread=37226923#t37226923), which I make frequently.
