Just an update to say that my lasik went fine this afternoon, and I have not been blinded by lasers. Everything was really fuzzy when I left the place, but after my enforced nap now things are much better. It's so strange to be able just to see clearly.

The thing itself was really scary, even though they numbed my eye, I had all-laser so they put this ring on my eye that sort of squeeze-suctioned it, and they kept being like 'it's just pressure' but apparently I can't tell pressure from pain because it was entirely unpleasant. they gave me these squeezy balls and they had to peel them out of my hands at the end cause I was squeezing so hard my hands like cramped up. My advice to you, if you get this done, is when they ask you if you want tylenol PM or something stronger, go for the something stronger. I totally should have been valiumed or something.

the lady was like "don't worry, you're doing fine" when we switched eyes and added 'we've seen it all here' and in spite of everything I had to laugh because lol, what does that even mean. Anyway, they said that everything went perfectly in both eyes, and then I started crying as soon as it was over while the guy was trying to re-check my eyes.

I have to wear sunglasses even inside for the next 2 days, so I feel like I'm in a bad 80s music video, and my eyes are kind of sore and itchy, but really I feel okay other than that. I might not be around as much as usual for a day or two, but everything's fine so far. Thanks for everybody who left me well wishes on my last post.

I'm glad your lasik went well, and you can *see*! (I would never be brave enough to do it).

thanks! yup, everything is pretty clear already.

I think at a certain point the cost of the contacts/supplies and the annoyance of dealing with it overpowers how much i was scared. And it's only like 5 minutes of being terrified under some machine for it to all be over. Now i won't ever have to run out to a Walmart to get a travel size bottle of contact solution at 2am ever again.

Just think of yourself as cool enough to pull off sunglasses inside. ^_^

Glad your lasik went well! <3

omg so jealous of your ability to see without glasses. Lasik/something like Lasik has been on my list of WANT since the moment I started wearing glasses. uuuuugh.

it's really pretty incredible, i'm already essentially back to normal except for some haloing around lights. You should totally do this, because you're at least as blind as me.

glad it went well. I always thought about getting it done but right now the cost is out of my range, even though it's getting cheaper. That and I don't know if I'd be eligible.

I should have done it ages ago. Hopefully it'll come back into your price range at some point. Anyway, if you just wanted to know if you could do it, the checkup to see if you can is actually free, I didn't pay a thing for it. Also they gave me a bunch of little referrer cards to give out if people wanted them, so you're welcome to have one.

I'm glad it went well. Personally, I'm too chicken to get it done. I've got an eye-squick thing. *Lots of hugs* See, you're really brave!

I was super terrified, but that five minutes of horror was more than worth not spending $300-400 on contacts etc for the rest of my whole life, and certainly worth never having to wear glasses at the beach or gym or anything ever again.

you could do it *hugs* but thanks, I'm glad it's over.

I could never do it. Omg. xD
Unless they knock me out for it, it's never going to happen.

they could valium you up for it. i should have made them do it to me, instead of just the tylenol pm, but it all turned out okay. Anyway, they usually want you to be in your 20s so your eyes have stopped growing and all, so who knows. in the next five years maybe they'll come up with something different anyway.

i can tell you that the five minutes of complete terror i experienced was more than worth it, even already.

Oh man, yeah. Always, always go for the valium. They gave me two when I had mine done. I wish I'd caught your last post so I could share my experience. But I'm glad everything went well! Just wait. It gets so amazing how clearly you can see in the coming days.

It's already really clear today, i just have some haloing around lights when there's high contrast. my eyes are 20/20 and 20/15, they said.

i think it was only so scary because the part right at the beginning was the part that hurt, but yeah, maybe taking something would have made me feel at least distanced from it. but it turned out okay.

thanks! it's funny how many people say they've had it when i mention it, way more than i thought.

Yeah, you can see the improvement pretty quickly, but it still gets better day after day. The haloing lasts a long time, but it's not really a problem except at night if you're driving.

The valium does help with the pain. The most disturbing part for me was the smell. >.o

And I know what you mean! It seems so many people have gotten it done. But as a lifetime glasses wearer, it's so worth it.
