Jul. 24th, 2012 10:21 pmJust back from surprise NYC visit with
timeripple. well, it wasn't a surprise, but the sudden cheapness of the 39th street Pod Hotel for the month of July meant that we did it a few weeks earlier than originally planned. It was hot as hell and I'm exhausted, but we did have udon and wafel truck wafels, and sing something like 5+ hours of JE karaoke. I want to say that "Test Drive" is the most unintentionally hilarious karaoke song since "Linda Linda Linda."
During the trip, i took out my laptop battery to see if i could fix the way my laptop was warping, only to discover that...the battery is in fact swollen to like 150% thickness around one cell, causing the entire problem. This also explains my trackpad button and space bar's lack of clickiness as well; i was just assuming the laptop was old. Apple online stuff claims the swelling is a safety feature ("no no, that means it's WORKING") but I get to take a trip to the Lancaster apple store tomorrow to be like, uh, this is not okay.
Also on the train, I started editing About Face, finally. Once I actually sat down with some determination, it took embarrassingly little effort to fix the major plot problem i caused right at the beginning. I think mostly i was just still mad for causing it in the first place. Shouldn't take more than a couple days for me to finish, and then I'll farm it out to a couple other people to catch all the junk I miss. 60k worth of typo-checking is no joke.
I really don't know what to do about the mail emoji, though. Tsukioka in particular I think ought to have them, but in e-reader/pdf format...i don't know. I think there's too much worry about whether something will show or not. Maybe when all the real editing is done I'll try some kaomoji or something.
And I posted my first shiritori fic, which involves Kawai, Tottsu, and Yara. Huzzah!

Date: 2012-07-25 03:28 am (UTC)Eh, it's okay. Shoon's 4 years old, so it's to be expected. Honestly the only sucky thing is that new batteries aren't cheap, and I'll probably look into getting a new laptop soon, but not soon enough to prevent me dropping the money on a battery that hopefully won't explode any time soon.

Date: 2012-07-25 02:10 pm (UTC)Man, that sucks! I'm having a similar situation with my phone, but I don't get an upgrade until November. Fingers crossed our babies both survive as long as we need them too!

Date: 2012-07-25 03:47 am (UTC)I was just going to email you, because Di just buzzed me. Junsu is coming (solo tour) to the Hammerstein on August 30. My friend Trea's going to come down from Toronto as well, so let me know if you're interested! (It's a Thursday night right before Labor Day weekend. When does school start for you?)
Also, Test Drive is total crack! ♥ Jin! Did you sing it in English or Japanese? :-P Boo about your battery. Yeah - a safety feature so that your laptop doesn't EXPLODE IN YOUR LAP! I don't even! Hope you can get it fixed!

Date: 2012-07-25 04:00 am (UTC)Yeah, I'll be back in school by then, and we never get that Friday off (we get the Monday) anymore. We used to! Alas!
But we should organize a visit before the end of summer though. Like mid-August maybe? We should hit up that soup dumpling place and/or dinner with
Test Drive is only in English, such as it is, haha. Japanese-style karaoke is so much fun~

Date: 2012-07-27 02:58 pm (UTC)I mean, it isn't going to explode or anything, but I can't imagine it's the safest thing either.
