Saw Wreck-It Ralph on Friday night and loved every second of it. Aside from being a font of video game references, it was genuinely a good movie, and I recommend it for all comers. If for no other reason than the short at the beginning is one of my favorite shorts I've seen in a long, long time. It put such a huge smile on my face ♥

Also the song at the end was AKB48 which made me just laugh and laugh, to the point where I couldn't hardly explain it to the RL people I was with. I get so excited when J/Kpop people I know are in movies and things! Like when they played DBSK in the middle of Fast and Furious for no reason and I sat bolt upright in my chair like I KNOW THOSE GUYS OMG OMG.

I am also in love with Kisumai's new single, Ai no Beat, and it's so nice to be able to say that. I like the b-sides, and I'm so happy SMY2 have solo lines/harmony parts. It makes me want a Miyata/Senga duet so badly! all of them have such nice voices, but Miyata in particular, I can't help but hope that these are baby steps to letting him have more of a share in vocal splitting. Rock PV's preview doesn't thrill me, but I have hopes I might like Dance version more.

NaNo's going half-decently, certainly much better than last year. I'm a couple k behind, which isn't optimal since it's the end of the weekend, but it could be worse. I just keep falling asleep all over! no idea why I'm so tired.

We finished Sprout for Drama Night (JESSEEEEE) but no idea what we're going to watch next. Any good suggestions? I'd like something with adults in since we've watched a couple high school things in a row now.

Wow do I ever need to update my drama list. Let's see...

I've been watching Keizoku 2: SPEC and the director's cut of Tamra the Island with my dad, and both of those have been huge hits. SPEC might be a little weird for your crowd, though, what with the superpowers and the crazy? But the heroine is EVERYTHING I ASPIRE TO BE. Tamra is a fusion sageuk kdrama, which should tell you everything you need to know. XD BUT IT'S AWESOME. Ignore the first fifteen minutes! ...the heroine is not the brightest, though she is relentlessly adorable. You have a choice of the 16-episode aired version or the 21-episode director's cut, which will make a lot more sense but I think loses some of the snappy fun (though that might just be because I've seen it before and know what happens). Bonus: sageuk fashion!

BOSS is also good, though I think I remember you once said no police procedurals (I don't watch English-language police procedurals but BOSS is the greatest).

Lucky 7 is about a bunch of private detectives, headed up by Matsujun, Eita, and Doumyouji's big sister from Hanadan. It's one of those shows that COULD HAVE BEEN GREAT but... totally fell down when Eita was all but written out of the show and it devolved into a series of boring inspirational cases. It did kind of remind me of Voice at times, so there's that. (Yeah, I said the magic word.)

I think Rich Man Poor Woman might be a good fit for Drama Night if you can put up with office-ish romance: cute, sweet job-seeker with spine of steel (and more self-respect than five other romantic drama heroines put together) meets rich genius jerk and mostly fails to put up with his crap. (Astonishingly, this is not a kdrama. Also the only time I have ever found Oguri Shun attractive, and Drama Night will recognize Ishihara Satomi from Voice. *says the magic word again*)

You could maybe try Tiger and Dragon? One of two jdramas I'd say qualifies as Art (the other being SPEC), and it's pretty funny to boot, with requisite off-color yakuza jokes and terrible fashion. (Just remember the special is the first episode.)

Oh, how do you feel about musicals not starring half of Kisumai? What's Up is an ensemble performing arts college drama so awesome it actually ruined me for other dramas for months. If Drama Night can put up with the narrative trainwreck of Mary Stayed Out All Night then the very slight falling-apart of this one should pose no problems. (Once you can stomach another high school drama you can watch Shut Up: Flower Boy Band, which despite the title is one of the legitimate best dramas of the year.)

Anyway that should give you some ideas! I'm happy to elaborate on any of these or offer something else, too. :) (Obviously recommending things is one of my favorite activities. :D)

ugh, kdramas. they're SO LONG. i can't do another one yet, i still feel like Coffee Prince absorbed like fifteen years of my life that i'll never get back. plus we're going to get interrupted over and over for Thanksgiving/Christmas/whatever. we might MAYBE finish something with 11-12 episodes, assuming no interruptions, before I leave for Japan, which is probably best.

idk. What's Tiger and Dragon actually about? I wouldn't mind something funny rather than romantic for a change, but yeah, it can't really be too out there or i spend all my time explaining.

actually i kind of spend all my time explaining no matter what. And i'm sad we've exhausted the pool of things with Takki in them (there was only one thing in that pool).

Augh, I hear you, they take FOREVER.

Tiger and Dragon is the wacky hijinks (http://rainscene.livejournal.com/4588.html) that happen when a debt-collecting yakuza (Nagase) falls in love with rakugo (traditional comedy) and decides he wants to change his life. Problem is he's 1) a yakuza, and 2) not funny. In despair, his rakugo master sends him to a spazzy would-be Harajuku fashion designer (Okada) to learn the true meaning of Christmas comedy. AWESOME ENSUES! The episodes are pretty self-contained, so it'd be good if you're going to be interrupted.

Incidentally--you mentioned Ryusei no Kizuna on twitter--these two have the same screenwriter. I'd say Tiger and Dragon is the more successful effort, but RnK is its own special brand of crazy. Plus Kaname Jun and Toda Erika, which is always a good thing in my book, and Drama Night will recognize Ryo from the Orthros no Inu dip in the Takki pool.

If you don't mind sobbing every ep, Ghost Mama was good last season. Plus bonus Sanada fail (and super sweet Tottsu for one ep).

Some dramas I've enjoyed watching recently that are no explicit high school or police dramas are:
- 37sai de Isha ni Natta Boku (hospital interns)
- Iki mo Dekinai Natsu (having no identity)
- Legal High (law office)
- Rich Man, Poor Woman (office)
- Runaway ~Aisuru Kimi no Tame ni~ (escapees)
- Saikou no Jinsei no Owarikata - Ending Planner (just like it says).

Currently watching, but still airing:
- Kekkon Shinai (the problem/pressure of getting married)
- Perfect Blue (female detectives)
- Priceless (office)
